The Orange Bowl champs are not the favorites to win the Big 12 North in 2008. That according to the conference's media poll released today.

Members of the Big 12 Conference media have spoken, and their consensus is that fans can expect a Missouri-Oklahoma showdown in the conference's 2008 football title game.

In a poll of 51 conference media members released Wednesday, Missouri was a unanimous choice to repeat as North division champion, while Oklahoma was tapped as the favorite in the South.

Kansas, following a 12-1 season that included the school's first BCS bowl victory, was picked to finish second in the North, followed by Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas State and Iowa State.

Oklahoma received 49 first-place votes to finish ahead of rival Texas as favorite in the South.

The Longhorns were projected as the division's No. 2 team, followed by Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Baylor.

Last season's Big 12 media poll projected a fourth-place finish in the North for the Jayhawks, who wound up going 7-1 in conference play and finishing as runners-up in the North behind Missouri.

The 2008 Big 12 Championship will be held at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Dec. 6 and will be televised nationally on ABC.

I predict that KU will go 10-2, pulling an upset against either OU or Texas. I also think KU will beat MU, but will slip up against one of the weaker opponents on the schedule.

I've got a gut feeling that either or both Texas and Texas Tech will collapse. Texas is overrated and Tech is WAY overhyped. It'll be interesting to see how that goes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us "upset" Texas at all. You know Mangino's gonna go into that game PISSED.

Shut up. I don't know if you're joking or not, but you're an idiot for even joking about that. I'm a catholic and I take offense to that, whether its a joke or not. Also isn't it kind of a sin to judge people for their beliefs? Just something to think about.

Anyways, back to football (what this discussion board is supposed to be about), I can't argue against us being picked second. But I am surprised we didn't get at least one first place vote.

*** Speaking of Catholics ... *

About a century or two ago, the Pope decided that all the Jews had to leave the Vatican. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Jewish community.

So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Jewish community. If the Jew won, the Jews could stay. If the Pope won, the Jews would leave.

The Jews realized that they had no choice. So they picked a middle-aged man named Moishe to represent them.

Moishe asked for one addition to the debate. To make it more interesting, neither side would be allowed to talk.

The pope agreed.

The day of the great debate came. Moishe and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Moishe looked back at him and raised one finger.

The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Moishe pointed to the ground where he sat.

The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine. Moishe pulled out an apple.

The Pope stood up and said, "I give up. This man is too good. The Jews can stay."

An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what happened.

The Pope said: "First I held up three fingers to represent the Trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions.

Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground and showing that god was also right here with us.

I pulled out the wine and the wafer to show that god absolves us from our sins. He pulled out an apple to remind me of original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?"

Meanwhile, the Jewish community had crowded around Moishe. "What happened?" they asked.

"Well," said Moishe, "First he said to me that the Jews had three days to get out of here. I told him that not one of us was leaving.

Then he told me that this whole city would be cleared of
Jews. I let him know that we were staying right here."

"And then?" asked a woman.

"I don't know," said Moishe. "He took out his lunch and I took out mine."

I think KU second is fair. Both teams lost a little bit from last season, but since MU won the head to head, they should reasonably get the preseason nod since they have as much back as we do (maybe even a little more). That said, the north will be decided at Arrowhead, so we can handle this on the field, where it should be handled.

Hey all. Sports copy editors have rather odd days and times off, so sorry my post is a little late on this thread. Here are my picks.

3. Colorado
4. Nebraska
5. Kansas State
6. Iowa State

South
1. Oklahoma
2. Texas
3. Texas Tech
4. Texas A&M
5. Oklahoma State
6. Baylor

As for Hancock, I'm going with an overall thumbs up if you suspend your disbelief hours before entering the theater. There were definitely some cheesy parts, but it was an overall entertaining flick. I will say, Will Smith acting sort of like an alcoholic Spiderman was comical. And Charlize Theron looks amazing. She cleans up well (with the exception of Monster in 2003 - remember that one?), wouldn't you say?

I hope I'm wrong, but I think the sleeper in in the above predictions might be Nebraska. Their offense finished explosively last year (once they changed to their 2nd string quarterback). IF they find their defense again, and they still have better talent man for man than we do (at least by recruit ratings), they could be tough.

Personally, I can't wait to see our new ground attack. B-mac was good, but he didn't have breakaway speed. And I definitely hope our Texas gunslinger can go all season without injury.

Go Hawks!

I would hope that the LJW has enough backbone to enfore rules of decency on this board. I don't think they would want to get a reputation that they condone hate speech.

As far as the article goes, I think us at #2 is absolutely fair. Even though I hate it, MU did beat us last year and had to play OU twice. I think MU has demonstrated they're for real, while basically returning the same team.

Well, Scheelhaase out of Rockhurst is going to Illinois. Too bad he won't be wearing the Crimson and Blue but at least he is out of the Big XII. Plus, he'll have a chance to play spoiler to Misery every season.

As for the upcoming season I feel that the 4 most important games leading up to Camarohead are @USF, Texas Tech, @Nebraska and Texas. As long they win 3 out of those 4 and give OU a ballgame they should have a real shot at the North. Hopefully they have an adequate replacement for Collins to protect Reesing's backside.
