Olathe DE commits to Kansas

Olathe North High senior-to-be Kevin Young, Rivals.com's 33rd-ranked strongside defensive end, recently became the Kansas University football team's 13th commitment in the Class of 2009.

According to the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Young, who also considered Kansas State, Nebraska, Colorado and Illinois, the decision to attend KU was based largely on the Jayhawks' coaching staff.

"They played a huge role," Young told Rivals.com. "That is how I came to my decision. I'm going to spend time around a lot of these coaches, so that's what I was looking at. I think they'll have a good season under coach Clint Bowen as the defensive coordinator. He seems like he knows a lot about the defense."

Young finished his junior season with 80 tackles and 12 sacks for Olathe North, earning second-team all-league honors.

Actually GrayHawker those two committed the season before last. Last year we had four commitments before this date.Sean Ransburg 4/10/07Daymond Patterson 6/9/07Tanner Hawkinson 6/16/07Tim Briere 6/18/07But honestly it really doesnt matter which year you look at we are doing way better than any previous year. The program has a long way to go before we are a thought of as a powerhouse but we are taking massive and quick strides in that direction.

I like how we keep beating out the likes of Nebraska and K-State who would usually poach the local kids. In the immortal words of The Scorpions "The future's in the air, I can feel it everywhere...Blowing with the wind of change ". Sorry I couldn't resist. Bring on August.

Beating Nebraska to a recruit is fun. We used to beat out the likes of Tulsa and Toledo. Now we're seeing Big Twelve and Big Ten teams. Sweet.I can't wait to see the new Fighting Manginos. Aaauuguuust!!

Congrats young man (no pun intended). This DE should come in and become a beast! No way do we struggle with the talent that's on board for the next 4-6 years at DE. Local kid done good for himself.

Go to the rivals page from yahoo. http://kansas.rivals.com/commitlist.a... the go to football list and you can compare KU football recruiting to the rest of the Big 12. KU probably has the 3rd best recruiting class in the B-12 right now. Texas, OU, KU, MU...
