Kansas women’s hoops clinic draws more than 200 campers

KU women host clinic

Head coach Bonnie Henrickson and the Kansas women's basketball team rang in the new year by hosting their annual Holiday Hoops clinic.

More than 200 children and their parents attended Kansas University's women's basketball Holiday Hoops Clinic on Tuesday afternoon.

Kindergarten through eighth-graders participated in drills with current KU players and coaches from noon to 2 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse.

Participants rotated through seven stations that included instruction on passing, shooting, dribbling and defense.

The clinic concluded with an autograph and picture session with KU players.

"It's a lot of fun. It's a great chance for us to give back, share the love of the game, share smiles and laughs is the most important thing," KU coach Bonnie Henrickson said. "So many of these kids come to our games, and you recognize faces.

"Our players love it, doing the Banana Dance, being silly, playing Simon Says. It's a nice little break, and we already practiced three hours. It was a relief from that, too."

The Jayhawks will meet Xavier on Friday in Cincinnati.

Sounds like a success to me. Fundamentals are just that fundamental and it's not possible to be good enough at the basics. Take care of business in Cincinnati Friday.
