6Sports video: KU track star Sultanova honored

Kansas senior Kate Sultanova is the Big 12 Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week. On Saturday, Sultanova won the Husker Invitational pole vault competition by clearing 13 feet nine and a quarter inches. That vault currently ranks her #1 in the Big 12 and #2 in the nation.

6Sports video: Arthur rolls when not on bench

If Kansas sophomore Darrell Arthur could just stay in the game, imagine what his overall numbers would look like. Last night, Arthur again watched most of the Border Showdown from the bench because of foul trouble. But when he was in the game, he was fantastic.

6Sports video: Sasha shines in Mizzou sweep

Coming off the bench allows Sasha Kaun to shine. The Jayhawks’ senior center was dominant in a reserve role during last night’s 90-71 victory over Missouri.

Extra Minutes: Kansas 90, Missouri 71

Tying up loose ends from Kansas’ 90-71 win over Missouri, giving KU a sweep of the regular season series. The Jayhawks outrebounded the Tigers 48-25, and Mizzou for the second time this year against KU couldn’t convert from long range, going 0-for-10 Monday night.

Weary Tigers too pooped to pop

Third game in six days in wake of suspension too much

Make no mistake: Missouri’s men’s basketball team was pooped. You could see it in both halves of Monday’s 90-71 loss to Kansas University at Allen Fieldhouse. When MU coach Mike Anderson called timeouts throughout the contest, his players were relieved - and panting.

Aldrich shows off progress

Just four months ago, the simplest of basketball tasks gave Cole Aldrich the most nerve-racking experience of his young career. Even recalling it, he bends his knees and starts shaking just to emulate how he felt in October at Late Night in the Phog, stepping to the charity stripe for the first time in front of a full Allen Fieldhouse crowd.

Keegan: Keegan: Kaun picking up pace

Nothing quite does the smelling-salts trick for a senior athlete quite like seeing the finish line not too far in the distance. Too few games are left to waste any of them by blowing opportunities. Sometimes, seniors finish with a flurry nobody quite knew they even had.

Border snore

Jayhawks snubbed; Tigers drubbed

The national anthem ended and Kansas University’s basketball players prepared to shake hands with Missouri’s Tigers on Monday night at Allen Fieldhouse. Oops. The Tigers, who, like the Jayhawks, had lined up on the court for the stirring rendition, wanted no part of the traditional pregame pleasantries. They turned their backs and headed the other way.

Knight retires from Raiders

Texas Tech turns program over to mercurial coaching legend's son Pat

Bob Knight left when he wanted to this time. Almost a decade after he was fired by Indiana, the school he led to three national championships, Knight walked away Monday from college basketball in midseason. The Texas Tech coach, known as much for his brilliance as his fiery temper, abruptly resigned and handed over the team to his son.

K-State coach charged

Kansas State associate men’s basketball coach Dalonte Hill has been charged with driving under the influence following his arrest last week.

Commentary: Knight’s resignation fits unpredictable image

Bob Knight could do nothing that would surprise us anymore, not after all his seasons in the spotlight. He filled them with so much bombast and brilliance, with so many antics and accomplishments, we knew anything was possible.

Former KU catcher joins coaching ranks

Former Kansas University catcher Brent Del Chiaro has been named an assistant coach for the Orem (Utah) Owlz, a Rookie League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Louisville rolls at No. 16 Marquette

Jerry Smith felt right at home, and Louisville’s stifling defense made Marquette look uncomfortable. Smith scored 12 points and thwarted a second-half run as the Cardinals locked up the Golden Eagles again, winning 71-57 Monday to snap No. 16 Marquette’s 14-game home winning streak.

KU freshman honored

Memphis No. 1 unanimously

This week, it’s unanimous for No. 1 Memphis. The only unbeaten team in Division I received all 72 first-place votes from the national media panel Monday and became the first unanimous No. 1 team in the Associated Press college basketball poll since Florida did it for two weeks last February on the way to a second straight national championship.

UConn unanimous No. 1

The top three spots in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 women’s basketball poll remained unchanged, with UConn holding the top spot with all 50 first-place votes, followed by Tennessee and North Carolina.
