KU softball team heads south

On Friday Tracy Bunge's softball squad begins play in the Houston Invitational. The 8-3 Jayhawks are off to their best start in five years.

Kansas University will showcase its Big 12 Conference-best pitching triumvirate this weekend at the Houston Invitational.

The Jayhawks' three-woman staff earned run average of 0.97 leads the league. Sarah Vertelka is 4-1 with an 0.98 ERA, Valerie George is 2-1, 0.78 and freshman Allie Clark 1-1, 1.26.

Val Chapple and Dougie McCaulley each has a .333 batting average to pace the Jayhawks in that department. Amanda Jobe is hitting .314 with a team-high seven RBI.

KU will meet Texas State and Centenary today, Boston U. and Houston on Saturday, then close with Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
