Defensive end commits to Kansas

Quintin Woods, a 6-foot-6, 245-pound defensive end from Bakersfield (Calif.) Community College, on Saturday orally committed to Kansas University, according to Rivals.com.

Woods, who is known as a strong pass rusher, chose KU over Kansas State, Washington State, Arizona State, Boise State, and UTEP.

Woods played high school ball at Southwestern High in Flint, Mich. He signed with the University of Michigan in 2006, but needed to attend junior college for academics.

Woods had 80 tackles, eight sacks, and 14 tackles for a loss this past season.

“It feels real good to commit today," he told Rivals.com. “I have a home to look forward to. Now I can work extra hard in the weight room and get to Kansas and contribute the best I can. I am glad this is all off my back and I’m ready to go to Kansas.”

Another great 4 star recruit for this class, and this one is definitely an immediate need. Woods, Laptad, Wheeler, and Marshall should give us some quality depth and a pretty good pass rush next year. Even Tyrone Sellers, or Randall Dent could get into the action if they're early bloomers.Combine that with the fact that our very young defensive tackles will have a solid year of experience under their belts and it adds up that our D line should be much improved next year.Things are shaping up quite nicely.

Time to fill out that season ticket renewal form. Things happen for a reason. Remember that DE out of Olathe that made a spur-of-the-moment trip to Lincoln and ended up decommitting and signing with NU? Woods might not have signed with us if that kid had stayed committed. We need immediate help next year at DE and hopefully Woods will have the speed off the corner we missed this year.

Excellent! Now if we can shore up the linebacking corps, next season should be extra special. Keep rockin on Jayhawks.

I would say the guys who decommited have been replaced. Although I wouldn't mind getting another tall reciever to commit.I'm not worried about the linebackers. We have a lot of good young talent with speed at that position. I think this is the first year we are able to sign 25 players. I'm excited to see how the rest of this class turns out.

It looks like Erick McGriff may fill the opening for a tall receiver. That would be a good pick up as well.

Looks like a nice catch for Mangino and crew. While our pass rush wasn't terrible this year, it did have room for improvement. I think our D will be pretty solid next year. A strong pass rush is key in defending against the spread, which seems to be what all 12 teams in the league will be playing next year. We already know our O will be looking to set more records. Things are looking good.

This class is looking very good. All the DE we have now having higher rankings than Young who decommitted, so we certainly are no worse for losing him. The only issue is that we lost him to a North foe. Also, I have been hard on Clint Bowen for his schemes, but he is doing an excellent job of recruiting. Knowing Clint, I can see how recruits like him and the fact that he is the D-coordinator with his personality only helps. Now, if he can mature as a coordinator we might be able to make some noise in the Big 12 in next few years. The program is making progress every year in some area or another. This year, it looks like Mangino will have his best class ever. With some luck, we might even have a top 25 class and could even have the best class in the North division. That is a huge improvement. Very exciting for the Kansas football family!

I also wouldn't mind landing Donnie Jennert at WR. He's 6'6" and runs a 4.4.

The class is coming together nicely, and there are lots of quality players still out there. How about Tyrece Gaines from Butler CCC - a 6-2/205 4-star w/ 4.40 speed?

I can't wait to see what this team can do next year. It's a shame that we still have OU, UT and TT on the schedule, but hopefully we can beat at least one of them next year.I'm not quite as confident in the year-after-next at this point, at least until there appears to be someone ready to take over for Reesing. But I realize that's thinking way into the future. Next year should be tremendous!
