Kansas University senior linebacker James Holt and junior safety Darrell Stuckey were both named to the 2008 Associated Press all-Big 12 first team on Thursday, as voted on by members of the media.
Sophomore receiver Dezmon Briscoe was a second-team selection.
Holt emerged as arguably the team's top defensive player in 2008, finishing the regular season with a team-high 97 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and shared the team-lead in sacks with seven. His six forced fumbles also ranked second nationally.
Stuckey, who was named first-team all-conference by the league's coaches earlier this week, led the Jayhawks with five interceptions and was second on the team with 94 total tackles.
Briscoe, meanwhile, has caught 78 passes for 1,206 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also ranks in the top 10 nationally in total receiving yards and receiving yards per game.
Five Kansas players earned honorable mention honors, including offensive linemen Ryan Cantrell and Adrian Mayes, receiver Kerry Meier, running back Jake Sharp and linebacker Joe Mortensen.
Texas swept player of the year honors, with Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy earning offensive honors and defensive lineman Brian Orakpo getting the nod defensively. The offensive newcomer of the year was Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin and defensive newcomer of the year was Oklahoma linebacker Travis Lewis. Texas Tech's Mike Leach was named coach of the year.

Reesing had a pretty good year, but compared to last year he didn't quite live up to expectations (GOD-like expectations to be frank). Just wait till next year. I've got a feeling that good things will happen. Very good things.

Oh, and who would have thought that with the "trio" we've got for the LBs that Holt would end up being the lone first team selection. No complaining here, he earned it. Survey says he doesn't have the size to play LB at the next level but maybe not a bad choice for safety? What a wicked safety blitz that could be. Best wishes to all the Hawks in the Insight Bowl and in their future endeavors.

Bases on this years results, Holt was the only one that benefited from the "coaching brainstorm" to switch Rivera and Mortensen. THey both under performed significantly this year.I remember a certain HC that said they looked much better at threir "natural" positions. This is one of the strangest moves yet at KU and it flat made the team weaker at a spot where they were slow and poor tacklers all season long!Congratulation to Holt! He over came some limitations of the coaching staff to be a top performer!

What are the chances of Darrell Stuckey leaving early for the No Fun League?
