Kansas University safety Darrell Stuckey has been named to the 2008 all-Big 12 football first team and receiver Dezmon Briscoe and linebacker James Holt earned second-team honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Stuckey, who was an all-Big 12 honorable mention selection last season as a sophomore, intercepted a team-high five passes this season (third in the conference) and was second on the team in tackles with 94. Against Missouri last week, Stuckey had a hand in three Missouri turnovers, intercepting two passes from Tigers quarterback Chase Daniel and both forcing and recovering a fumble.
Briscoe, meanwhile, proved to be the Jayhawks’ most dangerous receiving weapon in 2008, catching 78 passes for a team-high 1,206 yards and 12 touchdowns. He finished the regular season in the top 10 nationally in total receiving yards and receiving yards per game, and was second in the conference in each of those categories.
Holt, a senior out of Altus, Okla., finished the season with a team-high 97 total tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and was tied for the team-lead with seven sacks. His six forced fumbles also ranked second in the nation.
Seven Jayhawks players earned honorable mention honors, including defensive linemen Caleb Blakesley and Jake Laptad, offensive linemen Ryan Cantrell and Adrian Mayes, receiver Kerry Meier, linebacker Mike Rivera and running back Jake Sharp.
Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, a leading candidate for this year's Heisman Trophy, was named the conference's offensive player of the year, while Texas defensive lineman Brian Orakpo was named defensive player of the year and Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant earned special teams player of the year honors. Oklahoma's Bob Stoops and Texas Tech's Mike Leach were named co-coaches of the year.
The teams were selected by the league's coaches.

Where in the H E double hockey sticks is Reesing on this list!!!!!!!!! Thats unbelievable that he didn't get at least an honerable mention. I'm glad all the Hawks that got listed made it. Great to see it but its a travesty that the Field General doesn't even get mentioned. What a bunch of K WRAP!!!!!!! I guess booger daniels is good enough.

how can you not put reesing on there?! And i could see carry meier making second team. kinda got hosed. Dez would have been first team if this conference wasnt so loaded. He deserves first team but the talent level of wr's in the big 12 is straight ridiculous. Biggest con: no reesing on the list. Happy for everyone else. They earned it.

Totally lame that Reesing doesn't even get honorable mention.
If Reesing played in any other conference, he would be at least 2nd team all-conference.

Stuckey made a comment a year or two ago about wanting his name added to the ring of honor. I thought it was a long shot but I'm starting to think that shot is getting better and better. He'll have to have a great senior season to get that honor. I hope he gets it.
There are a lot of great QB's in this league who deserve to be on this list. I do think Reesing deserved to be mentioned.

Well, Honorable Mention is third best, right? Not to knock Reesing, because he'd be top 3 in any other conference, but there are more than three other quarterbacks with better stats than him in this conference. He's just had the misfortune of playing with the best group of conference quarterbacks... ever?
And, yes, Meier should be Second Team at least. That is bull.

jaywkroks,
This conference is extremely, extremely loaded with star QB's... Josh Freeman from K-State was not mentioned either and he will probably be drafted higher than any of the others.... It is hard to compete with names like Bradford, McCoy, Harrell, Robinson and Daniel

Reesing shouldnt be on the list. QB's are too loaded and he had that stretch where he struggled. Dez would be 1st team in any other conference. Meier should be 2nd, but injuries a few games back hurt, cause he was on track for being 1st in catches/game in the conference. Stuckey is the heart and soul of our team. Couldnt happen to a nicer guy either.

I agree that the conference is loaded with QBs, but damn!!! Reesing definitely got hosed as far as NOT receiving an honorable mention.

BTW...I don't think there is a pre-determined limit on the number of honorable mentions that can be given out for a specific position.

You don't have to be third best to recieve honorable mention. It's not called third team, it's called honorable mention, yehweh. And besides, Reesing is probably the most honorable out of all the conference's "talented" quarterbacks, cause he makes things happen, on a team where he HAS to make things happen. I'd like to see how Harrell or Bradford would do if they were quarterbacking this KU team.

For those that think Reesing doesn't deserve honors, you may be right. However, give him a line like OU or Texas and he would freaking dominate. He makes everything happen for KU and they wouldn't be close to bowling again without him. Reesing is our Romo- take him out and you have a very mediocre football team.
I love seeing that KU football is getting accolades. Mangino is picking up on the Snyder-magic that catapulted KSU into a good program for a brief period of time. Gosh we are so lucky to have him as our coach.

Was looking back at some of these guys as recruits coming in, and most of them were considered 3 star athletes(Reesing,Meier,Briscoe, and Stuckey)while Laptad and Holt were considered 2 star.Huh,some rankings.Mangino has and continues to do one helluva job finding these guys.As far as Reesing making one of the teams I think he's deserving, but the Big 12 is so freakin loaded with stud qbs and the guys on the higher ranked teams usually get most of the pub.

Hey fellow KU fans! First let me say ....hey Misery, how did that taste? Is anyone besides me just thrilled not only that we beat Misery, not only that we beat them in the final seconds but it was Chase "the head case" Daniels senior year. BYOB. I have to be honest, for the entire year I have been concerned about our team's toughness. Losing a road game to Nebraska, whom frankly I thought we should have creamed did not help. After Saturday's win over Misery though, it would be hard to question this team's toughness. So what message are we left with this year? Out team is not there yet(meaning the top level of the Big 12) but we are getting there. I know a lot of people put stock in recruiting, and yes talent does have something to do with winning...okay, a lot to do with winning..but the great teams, legendary teams have something else. A mental edge"swagger" ..they know when the walk on the field they are going to win...and there is nothing their opponent can do about it. If Bill "Re-Tread" Synder can do it at K-State, then Mangino can definitely do it at KU. And he is working on it, Saturday proved that. What a tough KU team! What a performance! I have heard rumors we may be playing Minnesota in the Insight.com bowl..they better get to bed, cause soon KU will be taking them behind the shed..for their beating that is. Finally, if their is not an NFL team after next year that takes a chance on Todd Reesing, then that just proves how STUPID the NFL scouts are. The guy is a walking highlight reel. I think he fits in well in New Orleans(someday replacing Drew Brees) but given time to learn their spread offense. Arizona, New York Jets and even Indianapolis(future replacement for Peyton Mannning when he finally retires) look like good fits too for Todd "The Legend" Reesing. I don't give a damn how tall he is, either you can compete at this level or you can't ..Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy are going to end up in Detroit or Oakland, when Al Davis tires of JaMarcus R.( you know the place where QB's career's go to DIE) they will suck just like all other Detroit(Andre Ware, Joey Harrington) or Oakland QB's have sucked. Todd Reesing can play, end of story..don't believe...ask Misery, or any other team whom he has made look silly, like OSU last year(still on youtube) he completes a high percentage, avoids sacks and makes great plays..you draft him, you are a genius. Take care KU fans, see ya after we beat whatever Big 10 school the decide to sacrifice...oops I mean put in the Insight bowl.

What a bunch of garbage these awards are. If Reesing is not on it after breaking all of his own records this year than they shouldn't even bother giving them out.
I hope Reesing gets revenge on all of these clowns next year.

Don't forget that this is a coaches only poll so there are only 12 votes to divide up among the many deserving QBs and you can't vote for your own players. It is not surprising that, with Bradford, McCoy, and Harrell, Reesing was not listed on any of the coaches' ballots. The position is just too deep and there is only one spot to vote on. It's not like OL where you can put 5 guys on 12 different ballots and you end up with a pretty good representation of how deep a league is with those 60 votes. Even if each coach does pick a 1st and 2nd team, there was very little chance Todd was going to get one vote in what could be considered the strongest QB conference class in college FB history. (Can we get Beano Cook to weigh in on this?)
We all love what Todd has done for us, but in a league as stacked as this one was with QBs, it was going to be impossible for him to get a vote being only the 4th or 5th best QB in the league. He's 4th in our eyes of course, but Daniel is the only one outside the 3 Heisman Finalists-To-Be to get a vote, but he led the north division champs so its easy to see why he might have gotten one coach to give him a look (I'm betting CU who got smoked by him). Just be realistic about the situation and hope that when the larger voting pool of the press puts there's together, that maybe a few reporters feel strongly enough about Todd that he'll get his HM there.

While Reesing has been terrific, the Big 12 is just too loaded at QB for Reesing to make the top list. The QB often gets the credit when the team wins, and is handed the blame when the team does not. KU is 4 - 4 in the conference, playing in the weak North Division. The KU loss to a weak NU team was a killer. No doubt, KU's 4 - 4 conference record hurt Reesing in this poll.
Stuckey is very deserving as a 1st team member - he is a talented, gutsy player; Meyer should have been voted higher. Holt and Briscoe are certainly deserving of their recognition and honor by the coaches. Congratulations to all.

All these kids are deserving of the accolades they receive. Our recent 2 and 3 star recruits continuously demonstrate, that with limited talent, coming to Kansas can prove successful. Coach Mangino and his staff will do their part. The subject recruit needs only to dedicate the necessary blood, sweat and tears. Todd Reesing did his part. His stats may not have outweighed those of the other high profile QBs in the Big 12, but there is no way the other QBs listed above could have performed similarly as Todd did under the same circumstances. NO WAY! Reesing may not have received his deserving accolades but at KU he is a living legend. Can any of the other QBs claim that distinction?
