YouTube hasn’t changed Mangino

During a 2007 season that far surpassed expectations, Kansas University coach Mark Mangino picked up a few new titles: Orange Bowl champion, national coach of the year, and, following a heated exchange caught on camera, YouTube cult hero.

The video, which depicts Mangino shouting at punt returner Raimond Pendleton for a penalty incurred following a punt return for a touchdown, quickly became an online sensation.

During Big 12 media days, however, Mangino said that besides making him a bit more cautious, the incident hasn't changed the way he approaches his duties on the sideline.

"Somebody decided that that would be fun to pick up and put on there," said Mangino of the footage. "Which is fine, you know, whatever you need to do to make a buck in your business. But I am who I am. I'm not changing for anybody. This is how we got to where we are, and where I am, and I'm not changing."

I doubt anyone "made a buck" off putting the video on YouTube.

KUFan90:So you think YouTube just operates their services out of the goodness of their heart?I guarantee you that YouTube was extremely happy about all the hits that video received.

I think it had more positive results than anything. It showed Coach is about the team rather than the individual.

Can this so-called "news" just die? Not even remotely interesting at this point.

Rivethead:Yeah, but Mangino was implying that whoever posted the video was trying to make a buck, which is probably untrue because the people posting don't get paid anything, obviously (though he may not know this, I doubt he spends a lot of his free time on youtube). That said, I think it was definitely youtube worthy and didn't really hurt anyone. Not sure why it really even needed to be brought up at media days. So many other things I would rather hear him talk about.

I'm surprised some idiot media person didn't bring up the "BCS = $$$$ signs" quote from 2004.

YouTube makes money. Mangino knows that. He's a little smarter than the average Boo Boo bear. He knew exactly what he was saying. He sure new what he was doing on that sideline as well. We were one of the least penalized teams in the country after that.
