Pierce says he’s the best

— Paul Pierce said it. He meant it. And he still means it. The Boston Celtics small forward/guard recently was asked by a Spanish publication whether he thought Kobe Bryant was the best player in the world.

Pierce said no. The NBA Finals MVP called himself the "best player."

He added, "There's a line that separates having confidence and being conceited. I don't cross that line, but I have a lot of confidence in myself."

I think I found this on Yahoo and posted it like 3 or 4 days ago?
do you guys actually interview people, or do you only get your news from the Message Boards?

Piece is right: Bryant is a jerk and media darling in moronic LA. I know, I lived there till just recently. LaBron "Ball Hog" James is a conceited, self proclaimed elititest of the hardwoods. As long as he is around, his team will not win the championship: you can't play 1 vs. 5 in basketball and win. Pierce is THE man.

I enjoy watching Pierce play, and I respect him for staying with one team, even though they sucked for so many years, but lets not forget two small pieces of your "greatness" puzzle called KG and Ray Allen. Im still gonna go with Kobe as the best player in the world. Conceited or not. Before he is done, he will have broken all of MJ's records and possibly have just as many or more rings. Paul, keep playing hard, but you are not the best player, you are a great player on a team with a lot of great players.

Terrible story LJW

I believe he's still got 3 rings to go just to tie Jordan. Not sure if I see that happening for him. I understand that KG and Ray Allen were a big part of the Championship but I can't remember one single player winning an NBA championship without help. Does that mean Kobe can't be the best because he had Pau Gasol? Was Jordan not the best because he had Scottie and Rodman? The best player can also mean the player who makes everyone around him better and is unselfish enough to be able to play with other all-stars. The opposite can be said for Kobe at times. He can make his teammates worse by making them a non-factor in the game...and he definitely doesn't play well with All-Stars (running Shaq out of town.)

I like Pierce and was happy to see him win a Championship and the MVP of the Finals, but there is no way he is the best player in the NBA. He's not even the best player in the Eastern Conference. I'm sorry but it's true. No disrespect towards him intended.

If I had the first pick in an all-world draft for a tournament starting right now - I'd take Chris Paul or Kobe Bryant or LeBron James. I think that LeBron would love to be a team player, but the system and the people around him don't give him that luxury.

njjayhawk, Lebron is anything but a "ballhog," and he really is a team player. If the 8 assists per game aren't enough of an indication, then you should watch some of his games. He's a play-maker who sometimes gets criticized for not shooting enough.

"He's a play-maker who sometimes gets criticized for not shooting enough."

That's probably because he doesn't have a jump shot.

He's amazing...but the best? I dunno about that.....I hate Kobe Bryant's guts.... but to say that Pierce is better is a little exagerated.....If Kobe Byrant had Kevin Garnet and ray allen on his team they would be even better I think.

Did anyone stay up to watch the Olympic basketball game, USA vs Russia? Did Sasha get to play and if so, how did he do?

A question to the knowledgable commentors on this list: Who was the last KU basketball player to play on an Olympic Men's Basketball team and what year?

Ok, I'm obviously a fan of Paul Pierce but this is just ridiculous. Kobe is quite a bit better than Pierce, I don't know if any of you remember this but he scored 81 points in one game. Kobe does whatever he wants on the court.

Rockchalk_Mom - Sasha played 7 minutes, with no measurable stats. Here's a link to the boxscore...

I think the last KU Olympian BBall Player was Danny Manning in 1988, but Pierce played for one or more of the USA teams at the World Championships over the recent past, I think.
