Stillwater, Okla. Emily Powers shot a team-best 80 to lead Kansas University's women's golf team to a seventh-place start in the team race at the Big 12 Conference Women's Golf Championship on Friday.
Powers was tied for 13th place after the first round at Karsten Creek Golf Course.
"Emily played solid with a couple of hiccups on some tee balls that got her in trouble," KU coach Erin O'Neil said. "I was proud of her though as she stayed in it. And she is among the top 15 individually."
Oklahoma State boasts the top three individuals and owns a comfortable first-round lead. OSU shot 303, while Texas A&M is in second place with a 315. Kansas shot 333.
Other KU scores: Meghna Bal, 83, tied for 28th; Annie Giangrosso, 84, tied for 33rd; Grace Thiry, 86, 43rd; and Sydney Wilson, 87, tied for 44th.
