Waco, Texas Kansas University's soccer team shrugged off a disappointing nonconference season to tie Baylor, 2-2, Friday at Mays Complex in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams.
Freshman Rachel Morris and sophomore Shannon McCabe scored for the Jayhawks, who moved to 1-7-2 overall compared to Baylor's 6-2-2 mark.
KU erased a 2-1 deficit in the 66th minute when midfielder McCabe ran down the ball on the far side of the box and blasted a shot that deflected off a defender into the top of the net.
KU outshot Baylor, 7-1, in the two extra sessions. The Jayhawks had a chance to win in the final seconds of OT when Monica Dolinsky was taken down just outside the box.
The play resulted in a direct free kick, which Dolinsky hit to the near post, however Baylor goalkeeper Ashley Noah made a sprawling save to deflect the ball wide of the net.
Earlier, KU erased a 1-0 deficit when Morris scored off a pass from Jessica Bush.
