Dodge City High senior quarterback Kale Pick, who pulled back on his commitment to Arkansas Sunday night, has given his verbal pledge now to Kansas University.
The 6-foot-1 gunslinger, ranked as the No. 6 prospect in this year's in-state senior class by Rivals.com, has been injured for much of his senior season, but as a junior was 105-of-190 for 1,779 yards and 19 touchdown tosses.
Rivals.com also ranks Pick as the No. 11 dual-threat quarterback in this year's crop of prospects.

and so the tide begins to turn ...
If Kansas can keep all of it's top recruits, and continue to steal one or two from various other states - look out!

Wow that is the greatest news I've heard since sliced bread!
My brother and I spotted him out in Lawrence for the Baylor game. He walked by us, and we shouted "Hey Kale, come to Kansas" and things like that. He seemed to get a kick out of that.
I'd like to think we had a hand in this. You are welcome Mangino.

maybe the fact that Houston Nutt is going to be replaced had a hand in this. Sorry there Jimmy Dean.

Yep, Good Job Sausage Man! It's exactly that kind of attention that gets basketball recruits to sign here and it's good to see it work in football as well. Often times the fans of schools don't even know which big time recruits are visiting. Showing that you care about the program enough to know who he is tells them a lot about the program.
This gives us a perfect replacement for Todd Reesing. Watch his prospect videos on rivals and you'll know what I mean. He's mobile and shifty, with a very quick release, keeps his eyes downfield, and looks very comfortable throwing on the run. The kind of quarterback that can make your offense unstoppable!
Most likely he'll take a redshirt next year while Reesing and Meier are Juniors. Meier will likely remain as the main backup. Then, when Meier and Reesing are seniors you'll have Tyler Lawrence, A.J. Steward, and RS Freshman Kale Pick to fight for the backup spot. This should open it up so that Meier won't have to concentrate on the QB position so much, he can be a full time receiver with the ability to punt or throw whenever we need it. That will open up things a ton for this offense, yet it won't be as much of a risk as we are taking now.
Welcome to the program Mr. Pick, I have a feeling you're going to have a very big career here.

I was with The Sausage Man when that happened. If I remember right we were on defense when we saw him and we were wearing the KU hardhats that sevenyearhawk gave us. I think we sent him a message in that moment that KU fans are serious about their football program.
Id sure like to think we influenced him, but who knows?

Does anyone know about his injury?
That is a nice turn in the tide. While the Razorbacks problems may have contributed, it can't hurt that the nation is noticing a change in the program, the record, but the recruits will also be seeing the new facilities. It also helps to have the stadium looking up at one of the coolest settings in college football.

Great for the future -- if we stay focused week by week this year, this will only be the beginning. We gotta shoot for the stars this year. We gotta bring our best every week and look to run it up if we get a chance. KU fans, coaches and players need to be thinking about one thing this week: Texas A&M. Fans need to travel down to College Station. Coach Mangino -- play the practice speakers twice as loud as you did for the CU and KSU practices -- their fans will be twice as many and twice as loud! Make the KU offense LOVE hearing lotsa noise and scoring anyway!!! Respect A&M and their crowd! Go Jayhawks!

I've been seriously thinking about making a few more on the road to College Station, I think I can undercut the genuine articles with my knock-offs by about $10 ...
how does he do it you ask?
cheap immigrant labor! ;)
/have I mentioned that I was born in Mexico and adopted by Gringos and raised in rural Eastern Kansas?

I am originally from western kansas and now living in OKC. My little bro played against him and I went and watched. WOW he can throw. He reminds me a little of Jay Cutler, obviously with a little less arm strength. But if he can stay healthy he's got a good chance to be special.

Kale is a good kid and a good athlete. This is a great catch for KU. His mom was my daughter's 3rd grade teacher about seven years ago. Kale has a sister that plays/played college basketball somewhere (I forget where).
Good luck Kale!!!
