Kicker Webb honored by Big 12

Kansas University senior kicker Scott Webb has been named the Big 12's special teams player of the week for his performance in the Colorado game, it was announced today.

Webb booted two field goals, from 48 and 35 yards, the first coming despite a bad snap that caused him to stutter-step. He also booted the only extra-point try he had, keeping him perfect on the year.

Webb was honored by the conference for the second time in his career.

Hey, a tip of the hat to Kyle Tucker and our long snapper. You talk about "Cool Hand Lukes." To make 3, count "em 3, successive terrific punts from deep in your own territory with the game on the line and with that drunken, doped up student body howling from a few yards away validates the guts and determination of those two and of this entire team. Also the punt coverage on that huge kick(s) was great.

Also, a tip of the hat to the KU guy who made the holding penalty on the first punt. Had he not done that, the punt would have been blocked and we would probably have lost the game. Some penalties are smart. That one was brilliant.

I was at the game and was proud of the team and the boisterous KU fans in attendence.

I'll second that! Three boomers in a row from Tucker, that was amazing.

Also, CU's students must have been trying to rival mizzou. Although they were loud in the last moments of the game, their chant of "f*ck you ku" was easily heard by all of us on the opposite side of the stadium. You stay classy, colorado. sheesh.

I third that!

I have had trouble in the past convincing fans of other Big 12 teams that MU has the worst fans. They would always argue CU holds that distinction. I imagine MU fans are worse to us than other teams, but apparently CU fans treat everyone equally bad. I am glad you guys made it out of there unscathed!

Well said, troutsee. It was a perfect example of how a penalty can be absolutely necessary at times. (And sometimes you can even get away with it.)

I think Scott Webb is the most underrated player on KU, if not in the entire conference. Until this award, he's hardly received any notice, just quietly going about his business of being nearly flawless on field goals and consistently good on kickoffs. That's a huge weapon to have available in a close game. And as the games get tighter and the competition more intense, how great is it to see Tucker getting out of his slump? Man I don't want this to end any time soon! My friend who's an Oregon alum has been giving me sh*t all year about what a weak schedule KU has played, even as I've tried to impress him with all of the great things KU has been doing. But he told me today that if KU wins at aTm, he will finally be impressed. He also said he thinks aTm will win. It's funny because I think winning at KSUck and CU is just as impressive, but if this game will get his attention hopefully that means it will cause some of the "experts" who have been denigrating KU to change their tune.

Go 'Hawks!!!!!!!!!

People always want one more win, one more. I think if we win Sat. most of them will shut up and get on board with us. There will still be the doubters out there, but 8-0 sure looks pretty good to me. I think they will too.
