KU volleyball team ready for Senior Day
Caitlin Mahoney and Emily Brown will make their final appearances at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center on Saturday - Senior Day for the KU volleyball team.
Two high school seniors signed national letters of intent to play volleyball at Kansas University on Friday.
Allison Mayfield, a 6-foot-1 hitter from Overland Park Aquinas, and Nicole Tate, a 5-10 sitter from St. Louis, will comprise coach Ray Bechard's 2008 freshman class.
"Allison and Nicole are both quality student-athletes that will represent Kansas well over the next four years," Bechard said. "They are great kids on and off the court."
Mayfield helped lead St. Thomas Aquinas to back-to-back state titles in 2006 and 2007 and was selected to the all-state tournament first team both years.
Tate was ranked the 36th best player in the class of 2008 by Prepvolleyball.com. While at Lindbergh High School, Tate was a three-time all-region selection and became the first player in Lindbergh volleyball history to be named all-state her senior year.
