Injury report
KU coach Mark Mangino said he wasn't sure whether safety Patrick Resby would be ready to play Saturday against Iowa State, after sitting out last week's game with an undisclosed injury.
"He's out on the field practicing," Mangino said. "He's a day-to-day case. It's hard to tell how effective he will be. We're not sure yet."
Mangino later said that defensive tackle James McClinton, who sat out some plays last week, was practicing as well.
Scheduling shuffle?
KU associate athletic director Larry Keating confirmed Wednesday afternoon that ESPN had been in contact with Kansas and South Florida administrators about the possibility of shuffling the 2008 football schedule.
ESPN is interested in Kansas and South Florida playing on Aug. 29, 2008, in a primetime televised game on Friday night. That would require some restructuring since the KU-USF game right now is slated for Sept. 13 in Tampa, Fla., and Kansas has Florida International on the schedule for Aug. 30.
Keating called the discussions "very preliminary," adding that he had not talked to Florida International about the possibility of moving a game.
"It's feasible in terms of being able to do it," Keating said. "The question is if we want to do it or not."
Keating said the adminstration and Mangino aren't interested in pondering it now and will tackle the possibility later.
"Much later," Keating said.
TV clearance
Saturday's regional telecast of the Kansas-Iowa State game will be televised to about 28 percent of the nation, mainly in the Midwest.
KU will play at the same time as three other ABC telecasts - Penn State-Michigan State, Miami-Virginia Tech and California-Washington.

No. 72 player in the country cyrus gray
DeSoto, Texas, running back Cyrus Gray has been one of the most dominating players in the Lone Star State for the past two seasons and for his efforts he's rewarded with a spot in the Rivals100. Gray moves into the No. 72 spot. Gray is one of the few top uncommitted players left on the board in Texas.

ku_fan25, I wonder if Marcus Herford knows Mr. Gray and could help sway his recruitment? I bet some of our current players from the Cedar Hill/South Oak Cliff area are acquainted with him. He looks like a great prospect.

you should check the video the highlights. he even played some quarterback. the he made the defense look like total trash. and he pretty much ran it everytime. and when he would drop. back to pass he would wait for the d to drop back. and then takeoff but when he passed the ball he looked impressive. but we all know were all set at qb right? haha
but yeah, mangino has 4 coaches that go to the state of texas alone, which is where alot of our players are coming from but who knows,Herford may know of him and could help sway his recuitment...i hope thats the case..but we also hav a few top 50 juco prospects that have us high on the list.

One of the awesome things about this year's success is we will start being serious contenders for prospects like Cyrus. He's got some big-time schools on his list. If we approach each four-star and five-star recruiting situation with the attitude "Why not us?" it won't matter who those other schools are. Additionally, as long as we maintain our search for hidden and underrated talent, the sky will be the limit.

yeah, we have a decent class coming in we only have 11 guys. but they are all 3 star recruits. we have a couple good lineman. 2 tight ends who i think could fill in derek fine's spot when he leaves. we have got kale pick at qb who originally comitted to nebraska and now has signed with us. and 1 reciever im excited about i saw his highlight film and he looked good. and theres one lineman whos 6-8 300 J'marcus webb who looks to be pretty good i think hes from butler cc but he hasnt committed yet.

Check out the latest power rankings. Not only does Aqib move back to the top spot, but Sparky is now in the top 10, AC is top 5, BMac and Mute are in the top 25, the two coordinators are in the top 11 and Mangino is top 10. I'm not huge on rankings like these, but we're getting a lot of love.
On the game this weekend, I think we could use a few style points. Lets say 49-10.

I plan a week-long return to Tampa/St Pete with my family ...
So it was during the season that the Bucs won the Super Bowl ... I worked night shift at the St Pete Times ...
I slept during the day, and I had this dream, that I was standing on the deck of that boat, and heard the cannons: boom, boom, boom, boom!
Well, the next thing I know, I wake up ... they were remodeling the house next door and were doing something with the roof shingles that sounded like boom, boom, boom!
There actually was a guy down here who had a replica in his backyard, complete with canon that he shot off when the REAL Bucs scored ... his neighbors hated him!
tex, I'll text you why I was up so late - not good news ...

week nine!!!...
... of my quixotic quest to guess when each team in the nation will lose first.
We're down to two, Hawaii, and, of course, Kansas.
Hawaii goes on the road -where they have struggled, Colt Brennan is being rushed back after a concussion, and UNR took Boise State to 4 OT's early this year...
Thusly do I predict that after this week, the only remaining undefeated team in college football will be, of course, Kansas.

If you look at the numbers between KU and Iowa State it's hard to make an argument for the Cyclones. We rank pretty high in almost every statistical category and they rank pretty low in most. But they have back to back wins over K-State and Colorado and loss by 10 to Oklahoma. The betting line must be close to 4 TD's. It would be easy for the Jayhawks to be looking beyond this weekend to the mizwho game. I'm betting the Man won't let that happen. Roll the App State Michigan highlights.

I'm more interested in the fact that Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi all receive the KU game. That's prime recruiting turf right there. If those kids know that mom and dad can watch them in a ho-hum conference game, that's more attractive.

Do me a favor. When we are pummeling Nebraska at AFH this season, remind people to chant, "just like football". i'm spending way too much time here and when the football season is over I'm going to use the off-season to catch up on some things I've been neglecting, like my life.

I hear you AZHawk, but $22 is a small price to pay in my opinion. If you haven't recovered from last weeks Pac 10 excitement try watching something a little more sedate like the Duke-Notre Dame pillow fight. I heard they will be replacing their traditional uniforms with pajamas and at halftime they will be taking a nap.

The home page for the website with the coverage map is:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espn...
It's the main page for "ABC Sports". The little Flash window in the middle of the page has one of the choices (usually by Thursdays) being "Regional Coverage". If you click there, you'll get the map, along with which games will be in HD.
Here's something else... has anyone heard anything about the possibility of ESPN College Gameday coming to Lawrence or KC for next week's game? Or does anyone know when they usually announce their next site?

okjhok, I thought the interview was okay and am continually amazed at how much press we've received this year. Interesting comment Mark had about preserving the bowl system. I've always liked the bowl system as well because unlike basketball it gives a lot of teams a chance to take some hardware home. But I never thought I'd have to be concerned about getting squeezed out of the national title picture so I might have to alter my position. Did you see the piece on Outside the Lines?
Quote from Todd McShay
"When Ohio State was undefeated nobody had a problem with their non-conference schedule".
College football is the definition of prejudice which is a shame since the BCS is so dependent on opinions. They keep tweaking the system but what they really need to do is minimize the impact of the polls. Seems unlikely that we will start next year at 10-0 but next season we might actually benefit from the very prejudice that is hurting us this year.

I can't understand why people don't get the fact that you could have a small playoff system and still have bowl games. There would be the fun aspect of seeing who gets snubbed on the selection day and where people get seeded. Brackets would be flying around just like basketball season. Yet when it was all said and done there would still be an opportunity for those who got snubbed to play some post season football.
