Ohio State's loss to Illinois on Saturday created a little bit of wiggle room for Kansas University to continue climbing.
The Jayhawks, after beating Oklahoma State 43-28 on Saturday, is now ranked third in the Bowl Championship Series standings. The top two teams at the end of the regular season will play for the BCS National Championship on Jan. 7.
The Jayhawks' BCS average is 0.9094, ranking them behind only LSU (0.9802) and Oregon (0.9383). Fellow Big 12 schools Oklahoma (0.8540) and Missouri (0.8096) round out the top five.
Ohio State dropped to seventh.
In addition, Kansas is ranked No. 4 in all three major polls -- the Associated Press, USA Today coaches and Harris Interactive. The Jayhawks received first-place votes in all three polls, though LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma ranked 1-2-3 across the board.
Kansas (10-0) plays host to Iowa State on Saturday.

The computer polls continue to carry us. We are ranked 4 in the human polls and 2 in the computers and we come out at number 3. The Sagarin poll has been our favorite all year, and now the Dr. Peter Wolfe ranking also puts us at #1. Massey has us at 4, Billingsley still puts us at #6. Anderson and Hester had us at 3 last week so we're probably 2 now, and Colley had us at 6 last week and we may have moved up in it. The four computer polls that matter to us have us at #1, probably #2, at #4, and probably at #6.

I agree with Lou...at this point in the season, KU has nothing left to prove...they are undefeated and should be #1

If our jersey's said Ohio State or Texas, we would be #1. But we still need to prove ourselves since we haven't done anything until this year. One game at a time and it will take care of itself.

We truly have our own destiny in hand. We beat ISU soundly, then MU & OU, and we move ahead of Oregon, because we'd have victories over two top 5 teams in the last couple of weeks of the season. By no means a done deal. Personally, I think MU is going to give us more trouble than OU. The team that wins out the rest of the season should be playing for the national championship, be it us, MU, or OU. Got a feeling Oregon is going to lose to Zona on Thursday. Just a feeling.

personally i'd rather not be ranked 1 or 2 right now. wait for that after we beat mu and ou if that happens then we will be 1 or 2. i like ppl seeing us overrated, gives us something to keep proving every week. this week i would get up big fast on the cyclones then bench the starters and rest them up for the showdown. i will be rooting for ksu this coming weekend against mu.

jhawks 1510: I coudn't agree more. What it comes down to is a 3-team tournament with OU getting a bye. The winner of KU/MU plays OU for the right to play in the National Championship. It would be a travesty if one of those teams does not play in the NC game.

KU is really the only BigXII team that has a chance at the NC. Tiger fans hate the thought, but they don't have the computers and are too far back to make it without a meltdown by others. OU would only get one more quality win, and that won't be enough to push ahead in the polls & comps either. It's too much distance to make up against a bunch of other teams with one loss against better competition.
Isn't that ironic. The tigers whine (especially @ the KCStar) about us not playing anyone, but that is exactly what will keep them out of the NC even if they do win out. That's sweet!
Ante up ahead of time (schedule), or be perfect. Those are the 2 options if anyone wants to win it all in CFB, and KU is the only BigXII that still fits the bill.

I agree with Landon2003 actually. This keeps the Hawks hungry and leaves KU with some work to do. There is no way KU will be kept out of a major bowl or dare I say the N.C. if they win. Beating ISU is first and foremost.

no way... root for MU over KSU... we need MU to look as good as possible when we beat them
the better our wins the better we look
if MU loses to KSU they won't be in the top 5 (or maybe even top 10 considering how far KSU has fallen) and therefore us beating mizzou won't have as much meaning and won't vault us over Oregon into the #2 spot. the only teams we should really be rooting against at this point are Oregon and LSU...

Did anyone else see the BCS show on TV? No respect at all. No highlights, no discussion of next week, just a big Greek clown from the west coast who had nothing but smart mouth comments about us. They spent more time talking about Notre Dame than KU! Even Gary Barnett, who's a Big 12 guy, didn't have much to say. Coach M needs to show that film to the guys to keep them motivated, and to keep them from letting down their guard this weekend with the 'clones. ISU has done much better the last couple of weeks & are starting to gel a little bit. Go Hawks!

i would still rather ksu beat mu to ensure us of the big 12 north title. they would still be in the top 10 and lsu has a few tough games left so they aren't penciled in yet for that NC game. i'm rooting for ksu. as i said ku should get up huge and real fast this weekend then rest the starters. it's smart.

Hate to say it, but dagger108 is right - MU and OU would have a hard time justifying being selected with one loss over a one-loss Oregon team - KU has the best chance of anyone to unseat LSU or Oregon. Of course, with the way Georgia is playing, LSU might go down anyway.
The best part is that KU controls its own destiny - if we win out, we're going to the national championship game. Can't wait for Saturday!

I'm sorry, but there is no way in hell i would ever, ever root for Mizzou. But, I say the same thing about the kitty kats. My head very well may explode this week!
I guess I will pull for ksuck because mizzou has more to lose (Big XII North), but I don't have to like it. Oh well, at least one of 'em will lose Saturday!

"our mortal enemy will pave the way to a national title"

That "traditional powerhouse" bias is obvious in the human polls. Oklahoma maintains a spot ahead of KU on a week when KU gets a big road win against a future bowl team and the Sooners beat good ole' Baylor. For all the crying about strength of schedule, nobody seemed to notice that when they made their vote this week!

as bad as it may feel, we have to root for missouri this week. it has already been pointed out that they need to look their best when we beat them. if we can win out from here, we'll have beaten two top 5 teams. but if missouri loses to kstate, our win over them wouldn't look as good. i know it will feel weird, but we need them to win this week. it can only help us.

Everybody that wants Mizzou to win, think about this for a second. If K-State wins, Mizzou will fall anywhere between 10 to 15. If KU beats Mizzou, a top 10 or 15 team, then a week later beats OU a top 5 team, that means KU is 13-0, Big 12 Champions, only undefeated BCS team in the country. 2 wins over Top 15 programs in 8 days. There is no way KU would be left out of the championship game. It wouldnt even be debatable.
We have never won the north division, so root for K-State to help us clinch our first north division crown since EVER. If we dont win the north, we dont get a BCS bowl.

Just posted this on another article but it seems more appropriate here.
Besides a KU win this weekend I'd like to see K-State beat MU. I know it's in our best interest to beat the Tigers as a one loss team but there will be so much at stake in Arrowhead if they beat K-State. A loss, god forbid would mean abandoning the B12 North, the B12 Conference, and our bid for the NC title game. Really seems unfair but all of that is at stake in just one game.
Besides, it's just so much fun to root against Mizwho.
