Major bowl representatives looking at KU

Saturday's showdown against unseasoned QB

How do you prepare for a quarterback that has only thrown four passes all season? That's the question facing the Fighting Manginos as they head into Saturday's game against Nebraska.

Homecoming with the Huskers

Memorial Stadium is already sold out for this Saturday's homecoming game against Nebraska.

The Kansas University football team's 8-0 start is starting to pique the interest of some major bowl games.

The Jayhawks' 11:30 a.m. game Saturday against Nebraska will be attended by multiple representatives of four big bowls - the Cotton, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange bowls.

The Cotton Bowl, which is played Jan. 1 in Dallas, usually gets first pick of Big 12 teams after the BCS bowls determine which teams they will take.

The Sugar (New Orleans), Fiesta (Glendale, Ariz.) and Orange (Miami) bowls are all affiliated with the BCS. Unless a Big 12 team goes to the BCS National Championship game, the Big 12 champion will go to the Fiesta Bowl. But several at-large bids are available, too, and the Big 12 might be able to put two teams in BCS-affiliated bowls such as the Sugar and Orange bowls this season.

Kansas currently is ranked eighth in the BCS standings, which help determine who plays in the BCS-affiliated bowls.

For selfish reasons, I would enjoy seeing them play in the Cotton Bowl too. However, a BCS Bowl would be much sweeter!

We have to think big, sevenyear!!

How cool would a KU UK Cotton Bowl be? Not sure if the wildcats will hold their end of that deal up, but it'd be fun.

Although the Cotton Bowl would by far be the easiest for me (and most people in Larry/KC) to get to, I am extremely excited to see reps. from BCS Bowls will be there on Sat. True, the Cotton Bowl would be awesome, but I mean, c'mon, a BCS Bowl?? amazing!!! i'd have to pull the $ to go to one directly out of my rear, but by god how great does Scottsdale, Miami, or N'Awlins sound!!!!

I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I honestly can't help it.

Since the big boys are in town, everyone needs to show up and be loud. Remember that there are at large BCS slots, and a good crowd showing will help our chances at that.

Screw the cotton bowl. For recruiting purposes, financial reasons, and program respect, lets hope we get in a bcs game. These opportunitites dont come every year, especially for us Ku fans. BCS all the way!

Something tells me that Memorial will be rockin'. Lotta blue, not as much red as in past years, basically a great BXII matchup for the bigwigs to see. It's my general observation that many grads that are normally on the fence about coming back for homecoming are pulling the trigger on their flights back, and that is directly related to the success of the team this year. I predict a GREAT gameday atmosphere in two days.

Right now I am hoping for BCS, although I think we will have to be undefeated through the regular season in order to nail down a BCS bid.

Cotton isn't bad because it will give us an inroad into a big recruiting state for us. Either way, a major bowl is a big recruiting boost, so hail Mangino, go Hawks!

Pre-Game Party at jimbo's if we go to the Cotton Bowl! :)

Seriously, we need to have a LOUD crowd on Saturday. Not just when Nebraska has the ball on 3rd down, or 4th down conversion attempts. We need what KSU, CU, and aTm gave us - - incredible noise on EVERY down the 'Huskers have the ball! Not only will it help our team, but it will show the big-time bowl reps we would bring a great fan base to their game.

The more blue the better. Bowl reps want fans that travel well and if they can't make it to their home games it doesn't bode well.

We didn't exactly bring the population of a small country to Ft. Worth two years ago, but we really did bring a decent sized crowd. I can remember tailgating and it seemed almost 90-10 KU vs. Houston fans. People that watched it on TV said that it looked all KU. That was probably due to some good camera work because the opposite side of the stadium was near empty, but still...

And that was for the Ft. Worth Bowl--imagine what we'd do with a BCS berth!

I would imagine that these reps would talk to some people from the Ft. Worth (now Texas, i believe?) Bowl and confirm that we brought a good crowd.

I agree bmcmich1. I was there too and there were very few houston fans there. Also, this is 2 years later and im sure that there are many "closet" ku fans who are just waiting to come out! Imagine what a bcs game could do for not only the program, but for the national outlook on ku as well.

It's not just the gameday crowd that these bowl execs look at. They want to know things like how many people the team brought that stayed in the city and partied for the days leading up to the game. Bowls are big money events for the cities that host them. It's like a mini Super Bowl almost. They will want to know how many people are gonna travel with the Hawks and be in Miami or Phoenix or New Orleans or Dallas for two or three days leading up to the game (and thereby spending tourist $$ in that city). Most of the execs are probably banking on the fact that since we haven't experienced much recent football success most fans will be more willing to shell out big $$ to travel to a marquee game since our last big time bowl was Orange in '68, before some of us were born (myself included - my dad was a soph in high school, though).

I think a B-C-S chant during the game may be a nice touch.

After watching Glen Mason flip off the KU crowd, and watching Terry Allen turn our program into a 7th grade girls volleyball team, it is so great to see KU winning in football.

I totally agree with justanotherfan. If the Nebraska game is well in hand near the end I would love to hear the whole stadium chant b-c-s, b-c-s, b-c-s!!! If the circumstance presents itself, let's make it happen...

Think big, Jayhawks. BCS bowl is the way to go. KU fans will turn out big time.

Mangino has a way to have his teams prepared, so I don't expect a let down against the Huskers. I'd hate to be Ganz.

I dispise NU. Here's hoping we stomp them.

By the way, hardly anyone in our section (45) stands and yells their head off on third downs! As a top 10 football program (pinch me) we can't be like that anymore. The players have elevated their game and we must do the same.

Ol' Roy would call us the wine and cheese crowd.

Gameday is one of the few times where it's socially acceptable to YELL as LOUD as you CAN! My nephew and I take full advantage of this opportunity at every game and we have a great time!

We all know everyone is supposed to wear blue to the game on Saturday. I'd like to see a little more crowd participation than simply "waving the wheat" after scores! Be proud and get loud! Get the people sitting around you invovled and get them excited. High five them after a great play. Any sporting event I've ever been to is so much more fun when everyone gets into it.

We now have the national exposure we've all been crying about for so long. let's show 'em what we got!!!

KU Coaches, players (and fans if possible) should keep their heads only on the next opponent. Who cares what anyone else thinks of us? Let's just play the best game we can Saturday and shake Nebraska's hands. They're good people. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

1116, couldn't agree more. I am a grey-headed, old timer and I yell my head off on every down but there are plenty around me in section 42 that don't even yell on 3rd down and look at me as though I was nuts. I guess they are afraid of being uncool. To actually yell is beneath them.

Why do you think ND gets an automatic BCS game even f they have like only 8 wins or something. Big $$$$, after the records are discussed for the BCS if there are any doubts it really does come down to whatever teams travel the best. I am going to attend if they make a BCS game but I will be content sitting in Lottie's watching the KU game on TV with $5 schooners.
