KU’s 2007-08 non-conference men’s hoops schedule announced

By J-W Staff Reports     May 22, 2007

The Kansas University men’s basketball program on Tuesday released the non-conferencde portion of its 2007-08 slate.

The first portion of KU’s schedule includes six teams who made postseason appearances a year ago, including five in the NCAA Tournament field of 65. The Jayhawks will host Arizona, DePaul and Miami (Ohio), while traveling to square off with Southern Cal and Georgia Tech.

“This schedule is comparable to the one we had in 2004-05 when we had the number one RPI in the nation,” Kansas head coach Bill Self said. “It is very good. It has high profile games with Arizona, USC, Georgia Tech, Boston College and DePaul and many other games against quality competition. Hosting our own event will be something all of our fans will enjoy.

“Every non-conference team we play this year had a winning record last season,” Self added. “In fact five of them – Arizona, USC, DePaul, Georgia Tech and Boston College won 20 or more games. We anticipate this giving us a good television schedule as well, even though that has not been released yet.”

The season will kick off unusually early, with the first exhibition date on Nov. 1 against Pittsburg State, followed by another exhibition with Fort Hays State. The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 9, when the Jayhawks welcome Louisiana-Monroe.

Following that will be three home games as part of the Jayhawk Invitational, with the opponents still TBA. Another interesting home date to circle is Wednesday, Nov. 28, when KU welcomes home Rex Walters, who brings his Florida Atlantic squad to town.

Also, KU will play its first game in the brand new Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., against MAC opponent Ohio University on Dec. 15.
