An 8th grader? Wow. How can a kid who isn't even fully grown a major college prospect? He could morph from a guard to a forward to a center in 4 years...

I hear there's some 5 foot tall pre-kindergartner in L.A. already looking to jump to the NBA after just one year in Montessori. I don't think he's mature enough yet personally. And, he can only go to the toy shelf with his right hand.

Everybody knew what LeBron James was going to be starting in about 8th grade. I know it sounds ridiculous... but if kids can play that young... plus now with the way recruiting works, you have to jump on kids early and show interest as early as possible, or they won't even consider you.

OJ Mayo of USC and Derrick Caracter of Louisville were hyped up pretty big as mid-schoolers too.

KU needs to do a better job of making this tournament bigger with more exposure...Arkansas and Duke both have MAJOR (this is not major) competition coming in every year and you can't tell me playing a weekend in Cameron Indoor doesn't seal the deal for Koach Kommercial on a regular basis

I'm pretty sure Bruce Weber received a recent commitment from an 8th grader. Don't quote me on that, though.

These tournaments are a lot of fun to go to but many of the organizers don't promote them very much because they don't want a lot of people around interfering with coaches and scouts who are trying to be seen showing interest in selected players.
The HyVee tournament in KC in late July is almost impossible to find out about until the day of the tournament but it always has a lot of good players.
I have found out though that many times players aren't as good or bad as they look the day you happen to be watching them. I came away from the KU tournament a few years ago thinking KU had dodged a bullet by not signing Joe Jones. He looked lazy and out of sync the whole game and his coach was a real bozo. He turned out a lot better than I thought he would. Conversely I came away from the HyVee tournament another year thinking Missouri got a steal by getting Spencer Laurie as a walkon. He looked like a great passer and pretty good shooter that day but he looked the same at Missouri
I have really enjoyed the tournaments though and would recommend them to any basketball junkie.

Wow, how can you tell if an eighth grader is gonna be a baller? You cant, its all crap. But since JuJu left maybe we should offer him a scholarship....or not

The Carlino kid is legit. His dad is his aau coach out here in arizona, and he always has one of the best teams in the state. Matt will emerge as one of the top 10 players in his class; great work ethic, and he will grow a few more inches (his dad is 6-7)
