Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan submitted one of the top five breaking news stories in 2006, according to the Associated Press Sports Editors. Keegan took second in the under-40,000 circulation classification.

Sports reporter Ryan Wood earned honorable mention, meaning his breaking-news submission was one of the top 10 in the country.

Earlier this month, the APSE named the Journal-World sports section one of the top 10 Sunday sections. The J-W's daily sports section earned honorable mention, placing it among the top 20 in the nation.
