SACRAMENTO Kassie Humphreys tossed a complete game and her teammates provided two big innings Sunday as the Kansas University softball team beat Colorado State, 5-1, to finish with a 4-1 mark at the Capital Classic.
Humphreys (11-3) appeared headed for a shutout before surrendering a solo home run to Colorado State's Ashley Munoz - the No. 8 hitter in the Rams' lineup - in the top of the seventh inning.
The KU right-hander allowed six hits overall and struck out 12, just one off her career high.
The Jayhawks (21-8-1) opened the scoring in the third on an RBI single by Nicole Washburn, and added two unearned runs in the frame to take a 3-0 lead.
KU went up 5-0 in the fifth on an RBI single by Elle Pottorf and an RBI double by Val Chapple.
The Jayhawks will stay out west for a non-conference game Tuesday against Sacramento State, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
