KU trio tapped as AP All-Americans

Kansas University juniors Anthony Collins and Aqib Talib were named to the All-America first team by the Associated Press on Tuesday.

In addition, KU senior James McClinton was named to the second team.

Collins and Talib continue to do well on the various All-America teams being released, but a spot on the prestigious AP team may top them all. Talib, a cornerback, had 61 tackles, four interceptions and 13 pass breakups in leading a rejuvenated KU defense which struggled against the pass in 2006.

Collins, meanwhile, was a wall at left tackle protecting quarterback Todd Reesing's blindside. Fueled by the offensive line's performance in both run blocking and pass protection, KU's offense rolled to 491.1 yards per game and 44.3 points per game.

McClinton, meanwhile, racked up 38 tackles, including 11 for a loss, as KU's standout defensive tackle.

Big 12 had more All-Americans than any other conference. So much for the SEC bias - I guess the bowls will be the definitive answer. Congrats boys!

I think we might be getting a Christmas gift from Darius Parish (6-3, 325). We already have Zach Stadther. He's only 275 according to Rivals, but he's put up over a hundred tackles his senior year. At D-Tackle you're pretty good if you can put up fifty tackles, this guy must be incredible.

Further, our ends should be better as well. Duane Zlatnik is already big twelve size and may be able to provide some immediate impact. D.J. Marshall put up 70 tackles last year (which is pretty good) but 52 of them were for a loss (which is insane).

Combine these new guys with experienced players already on the roster and we should be in great shape. All in all, McClinton is a big loss, but the Defensive line as a whole should improve significantly. So it doesn't hurt quite so bad to say Good Luck in the NFL, make us proud!

As for the Offensive line, Collins has maintained that he wants to stay for his senior year, but if his draft stock keeps rising like this it might be in his best interest to move on. I would hate to lose his energy on the field, but with the size of some of the guys red shirting this year we should be able to take the hit without much of a dropoff.

I hope to see you in a Jayhawk uni next year Collins, but if Mama's gotta eat, then Mama's gotta eat. Whatever you decide, good luck to you as well.

Talib has some ready-made solutions to fill his shoes. Chris Harris should be improved from his already outstanding freshman self after a year in the training rooms. Kendrick Harper is a heck of a playmaker, hopefully he can stay healthy next year so he can have the kind of year he was hoping to have this year. In addition, Maurice Gray is rated as the #2 Juco corner in the nation by rivals, and he is ready to ink with us if Talib should decide to leave.

A Blanket thank you to all of you guys for all of your hard work. You deserve the accolades coming now, and the paycheck coming later.

Collins, Talib, and McClinton should all be added to the Ring. Whether we win or lose in the Orange bowl, this is the best year that KU has ever had in football. Can't wait to see their names on the Ring so I can tell my kids someday that I watched them play firsthand.

Make no mistake, these are three of the all-time greatest players to ever don a KU uniform.

at this rate ... they're going to need a top-tier of the bowl at Memorial Stadium just for more Ring of Honor spaces! :D
