Not as bad as I thought but still a little to dainty for football.

Preety sweet new threads. Not too shabby at all. Not sure about the numbering in the Trajan, but the lettering is cool.

Would somebody PLEASE give me back a jayhawk somewhere on these uniforms that you don't need binoculars to see! Sigh ...

Not too crazy about the new uniforms, but as long as we win enough games to get to a bowl, I'll be happy.

I'll agree that they are not as bad as I thought they would be. I would like to see the entire Jayhawk on the helmet. But I still don't like the idea of changing on font on the KU basketball uni's.

I actually like the helmet, and I think the uniform is okay. I agree with the others, though, that a Jayhawk should be prominently featured somewhere. It's important to keep brand recognition out there so KU is on recruits' minds.

I also wish the color was a little darker, but c'est la vie.

The Jersey and Helmet is ok...

The Numbering looks ugly. I find it very similar to the Baltimore Ravens Numbering.

I wish someone could have modeled what the Road White Jerseys would look like and the Alternate Reds???

The numbers don't look quite so bad the farther away you get....but the KU on the site of the helmet: does. not. work.

Yeah....if we have to live with that font, PLEASE bring back the Jayhawk!!!

Could you all have posted more than just 3 photos? Somebody took the time to get these up so keep clicking that camera and get us more looks.

I'm not a big fan of the Trajan font but the helmets look pretty solid. I'm not a big fan of the jersey numbers but maybe they will grow on me.....

Want more photos and think the Jayhawk should always face inward if not centered like it is on the football jersey. The basketball shorts last year had the Jayhawk logo looking to the side and I see a lot of gear that does this. Heard it was KU AD policy but it looks smoother when the Jayhawk looks inward. Self had a really cool Jayhawk Golf shirt on an interview w/ Jack Harry earlier this summer where he had it right but this seems to be rare as most gear has the Hawk facing outward rather than inward. Hope the KU AD looks at this. Old pictures where they have it inward always make the unis look way better in my opinion.

Welcome to the University of Kansas, Home of the "Fightin' Trajans". Go Letterheads!

The new Trajan "KU" on the helmets looks ridiculous. It might look fine on a companys letterhead that offers "Difinitive Business Solutions", but it looks like crap representing a University steeped in athletic tradition. The Suits have failed us again.

Some things to think about:

Origin of Jayhawk: Local history dating to the mid 1800's.

Origin of Jayhawk mascot: Student Newspaper cartoonist.

Origin of Rock Chalk chant: KU professor.

Origin of "I'm a Jayhawk": Ku Alumni, "Dumpy Bowles".

Origin of the Universtiy Seal: First school chancellor, later redisigned by KU art professor.

Origin of the Trajan font now used for Everything: Marketing firm LandreyMorrow from Portland, Oregon narrowed a list of pre-existing fonts down to 4 for the student body to choose from for only $89,000.

When you strip a major University of its tradition you destroy its identity. Would you rather remember your school for the great traditions and history it has or the fact that the football uniforms will have the same letterhead as a Biology teacher's paycheck? You dropped the ball, Suits, you dropped the ball...

I'm not seeing any specific comments regarding this - anyone miss the old Stagecoach-looking font? To me, that's been as unique to the universities' teams as the Jayhawk! they were synonymous (MU/KSU fans, that means der, the same thing)!!

Here's what I'm talking about - this is the font that I want

ttoulouse- actually that is what we have been talking about the last year to year and a half since they came out with this new font. It seems as if a majority of fans prefer the font that you do. But the reason nobody is bringing it up in this message board is because it has been talked about again and again and again. It's a done deal. KU is sticking with this font. The font that you displayed is dead to KU it self. Fans like myself will continue to sport the font, but KU will never use it as an official font again. Say hello to Trajan.

Actually, the jerseys look excellent! The helmets are good. Not great, but good. I still have a serious problem with Lew Perkins blowing a bundle of money on this uniform change only two years after the last one!

Droberts- I hate to play devil's advocate, but people on here are talking about tradition this and tradition that. How by using this font tradition goes down the drain and if we use this font then we are no good anymore. What? I want to know, what is it about this font that rids KU of our tradition? KU has not had the other font for very long either. Only for a little more than 20 years. So KU wants to establish an identity that everyone will recognize. In time everyone will have forgotten this and everyone will recognize this font as being KU's. Please define tradition because I would love to know what tradition KU is losing by introducing this font.

I remember how a lot of people "hated" the Denver Broncos new unis and people were crying to bring back the old ones. 10 years later and I dont hear anyone saying anything about bringing back the old unis now.

If all the KU fans were so worried about tradition they would have demanded that KU basketball keep the thigh high shorts and the old Chuck Taylors and that the football team wears leather helmets.

If anyone can tell me what great tradition will be lost by having KU introducing this new font, please let me know.

I actually heard that KU spent private money on the new font, so we shouldn't be worrying about the "waste of money". New font or not, lets keep supporting KU. That is the most important thing.

Actorman- actually the color is darker. Its just that for some reason they look like they are baby blue. They should be the same color as the unis last year. KU not only has a campus wide font, but also a campus wide color. So to have a baby blue uni would go against everything they would be working so hard to achieve. Watch KU's first football game. You'll see that they will be twice as dark as the pic here shows.

Wouldn't mind seeing the blue a bit darker but I like them. I like the font and I think it looks better than the Jayhawk which I've always thought was a bit cartoonish. I hope they don't go with the blue pants for road games.

I really don't like the fact that KU sports uniforms have been stripped of their identity yet again. Granted, the football uniforms have long suffered to establish a brand identity outside of the state. Of all the traditional top-tier teams in the NCAA Div 1, how many have had major uniform changes in the last 20-30 years? None come to mind. How many has KU had?...dozens. Say what you will about the puking Powercat logo, at least they have established a national identity and a more proud football tradition over the last two decades by resisting the urge to put another coat of lipstick on a pig to make it look prettier. I admire what KSU has done to bring continuity to their football program.

The traditional KU colors come from the Harvard Crimson and the Yale Blue (which is darker than the electric blue, or whatever the hell KU calls it). During Mangino's first two seasons, they got it right with the uniforms. I had never seen a better uni than that and I have been a KU fan since i was 5 years old (35 years ago). So what do they do to top it? become the NY Giants. But wait, that wasn't good enough...now they have to copy the university letterhead too. Enough already! I'm sick of this and I will not buy another piece of KU gear. Why does the schools official stationery have to grace our uniforms?...WHY?

The last straw is the KU basketball uni's. Football aside, this is the one uni you do not touch. But they did it anyway. I was a design major at KU and changes like this just bother me probably more than most people. There is something to be said for simplicity. It is direct, bold and to the point. It is no nonsense and gets the message across. Trying to embellish it with fancy fonts and shades of colors that do not hold to tradition distract...and I am definately distracted right now, not to mention deeply disappointed as a lifelong KU fan. I feel a real disconnect as an alumn. I understand that times change, but when too much starts to become unfamiliar...I feel the loyalty start to unravel. I'm sure in another couple of years it will change once again...it always does, much like another disapointing KU football season.

nebraska jayhawk - You ask how choosing this new font breaks KU tradition? The point I was trying to make was this: All of the traditions and icons that define The University of Kansas were designed or written by faculty, students or alumni. It was done in-house. Why did it take a marketing team from Oregon to choose a font for us? The student body and faculty are more than capable of choosing a style of lettering to use at their school. that's the tradition. That's part of the college experience. KU is MY school. I graduated from there. What does the marketing department in Oregon know about Wescoe beach or Campanile hill? If they would have let the faculty and students design a new font and I wouldn't have liked it at least I would know it came from the students and people who make up the University of Kansas.

The whole reason for the administration wasting money on this deal was they wanted to make the school more marketable with a standard font. more marketable? This is a question for everyone - How many students (especially athletes) do you think will decide to go to KU now because they've fallen in love with the "KU" font on the Jayhawk??? Will the number one basketball recruit in the nation say "Well, I really had it narrowed down to North Carolina and Kansas, but, man, I really like the Trajan "KU". So that's why I decided to go to Kansas"?

Bottome line: I really hate the Trajan KU on the football helmets. It looks weak, REALLY weak.

droberts- I totally agree. Thank you for that answer. Now I understand where you are coming from. I guess the reason was so vocal is because people keep throwing the word "tradition" around and not explaining themselves when they did so. But now that you have I am in 100% agreement with you and your take on things.

D Roberts...I have a real marketing job for you. Seems the bunch of cheerleaders that like this direction, don't understand what it means to build equity and differentiate this University from anything else let alone our main competition. Put the *bleeping* Jayhawk on the helmet and in a prominent place on the hoops uni's and scream the fact that there is no other Jayhawk in the universe. The "bleed" from this equity will pay dividends long after all of these bloggers have logged off for the final time. Don't leave the future of this fine institution in the hands of junior league marketing help that Lew hires.
