College basketball recruiting update…

Rising Reno (Nev.) High senior forward Olek Czyz narrowed his college list to Duke, Florida and Louisville on Thursday before heading to his homeland of Poland for a three-week trip.

Czyz, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound senior who competed for the Las Vegas Prospects at the recent Price Chopper AAU event in Shawnee, included Kansas University, UNLV, Nevada Kentucky, Arizona State, Washington State and others on his preliminary list of schools.

Czyz is Rivals.com’s No. 85-rated player in the country.

“All of the coaches have said I have a big upside,” Czyz told the Reno Gazette-Journal. “Of course I have to work on my offense and my dribbling, and I want to get stronger, too. After my first two or three years (in college), I will be a completely different player.”

¢Quintrell Thomas, a 6-8. 225-pound forward from St. Patrick High in Elizabeth, N.J., says he will make an unofficial visit to KU this month or next.

Thomas has a long list of KU, Florida, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Ohio State, Kansas State, Pittsburgh, Marquette, Maryland, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

“I really like Kansas because they develop players,” Thomas told Rivals.com. “The coaching staff does a great job of getting players ready for the NBA.

¢Phillip McDonald, a 6-5 combo guard from Cypress Springs High in Texas, plans to make unofficial visits to KU and Oklahoma later this month.

“I’ve got family that lives in Kansas, so it’s just another opportunity for me to head to campus and check things out again,” McDonald told Rivals.

He plans to visit KU, Oklahoma and New Mexico and is also considering Iowa State, Cincinnati and Texas A&M.

¢KU reportedly is looking at Dominique Keller, a 6-7 sophomore forward from Lee Community College in Port Arthur, Texas. Keller tells Rivals.com he has a list of KU, Kentucky, Baylor, Kansas State, UNLV and Houston.
