— Wichita State managed just two runs, but it was enough to dispatch Kansas University, 2-1, Wednesday at Eck Stadium.

Tenth-ranked WSU scored single runs in each the seventh and eighth innings to sink KU.

The Jayhawks (19-23) took the lead in the fifth, when Brock Simpson scored on a wild pitch. The junior right fielder led off the frame with a double to the right-center-field gap. Simpson stole third and scored on the errant pitch.

However, the Shockers (31-9) responded with an RBI single by Connor Gillaspie in the seventh and Tyler Hill's RBI single in the eighth to take the victory.

KU's Andres Esquibel and freshman Wally Marciel combined for six shutout innings. Both pitchers had identical lines, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out three apiece.
