At Tuesday night's Kansas University men's basketball postseason awards banquet, sophomore Mario Chalmers, freshman Darrell Arthur and freshman Sherron Collins all confirmed that they will be returning to play at KU next season.
Sophomore Brandon Rush said that he is still going to take a couple of weeks to evaluate his situation and then make a final decision.
Junior Russell Robinson was given the Mr. Jayhawk award, handed each year to KU's most valuable player.

robinson deserves that award, all the other players are streaky, robinson always seems to be in the game, he is one of my favorite players to watch since those two boys from iowa

I just glanced at the headline at first and saw "Chalmers, Arthur, and Collins..." so immediately I freaked and thought they were declaring as well. Glad to hear they are coming back. I just hope Rush does the same.

Yeah. If Rush left, that would create a serious void on defense. If someone had a long, athletic swing man, Brandon and Julian were our top two options in stopping him. It'd definately be different on offense too, with no swing man. It would be interesting to see what combinations would end up on the floor. I hope Brandon does come back. I think he'll be that much more assertive next year, and even with Julian gone, KU still has to be one of the preseason favorites.

If I am Brandon Rush's agent I tell him to return to KU and forget about his teammates. Get the ball and put in the hole everytime. It's now or never for Rush to step up to show he is an NBA elite prospect. Remember he will be a 22 yr. old junior because of the extra year of high school. The potential tag is fading fast and it's time for him to start dominating night in and night out. GO KU!

Hey nimrod. If you were Rush's agent, you would NOT be telling him to return to KU. Because if he hired you as an agent, then he can't come back to school!!
You are right about him being older, though. Same point I've been making all year in that I wouldn't be suprised to see him go after this year, even if he's not projected as a 1st rounder.

OK, let me first cop to being a huge julian fan. BUT...
I'm still incredulous that Julian is picked higher than Rush.
Rush defended everyone Julian couldn't.
Rush is not just a good trey shooter, but an exceptional one. Julian's J is suspect everywhere.
Rush rebounded almost as well as Julian and did it picking up scraps from the 3.
Rush disappeared fewer times.
Rush never plays out of control. Julian does about half the time.
Rush could be an absolutely awesome two guard in the L on a team with a good PG.
Julian without a J risks being one of an endless chain of slender tweeners who have a real problem finding a sustainable role in the L.
If Red Auerbach were alive, he'd draft Rush over Julian and spend the next ten years lighting stogies.
Taking Julian over Rush would be like taking Walt Wesley over Jo Jo White, because Wesley is 6'11,
slender, can run the floor and has a high ceiling. And Wesley had a J!
High ceilings are for churches and field houses, not basketball players.
Of course I think Julian could be something in 2-3 years. But Rush already IS something. He's just so smooth and effortless people are missing the big picture. He was covering for everyone on this team this year defensively and on rebounding, or he would have been scoring 20-25 ppg easy.
I know the L drafts big on potential, but they are crazy if they take Wright before Rush.
My bet is that a bunch of teams are sandbagging on Rush and that's why Rush is having to play the waiting game.
His first year at KU he carries the team on his back offensively.
His second year, he carries the team on his back defensively.
Every top team in the league needs a guy like Rush right now. No one-absolutely no one--desparately needs Julian's game. They are just hoping for a Julian-game that hasn't materialized yet.
But if I'm wrong and the league stupidly overlooks Rush, then I hope Self puts the offense back on Rush's back and lets some other guys do the defensive and rebounding dirty work. Brandon can make up Julian's scoring all by himself without a sweat. And Darnell Jackson can make up Julian's rebounding and defense no doubt.
Rush is the guy we can't replace with what we have and what we have coming in.

well said, you seem like a well knowledged basketball fan. I second everything you just said. I said before on another thread that I think the starting lineup of Russ, Chalmers, Rush, DJ, and DA is better than one with Wright because of his defensive liability under the basket. DJ is highly underrated and with a year to showcase what he can do I am looking forward to seeing his potential come to life. He is one of the only guys on the team that will show some emotion and won't let his team lose through scrappy effort for loose balls and rebounds.

I love it!!!
Finally D.Jack is getting some love. I have been a huge Jackson supporter for the past 2 seasons. He has such great emotion and a nose for the ball off the glass. I like his attitude and nastyness, but he is not a dirty player at all. Way better of an option than Kaun.

I agree with jaybate, but of course wish Rush stays 1 more year. Just a thought, but if Rush goes, what about 6'4" Rodrick Stewart defensively? He really hasn't been given much chance offensively, but the consensus already is that he is a GREAT defensive player, and I remember even in his limited courttime he really seems to go after rebounds, too. Plain truth also is we need more out of the bigs offensively, and this just may be a combo that allows THAT to happen. Give 7ft Aldrich the minutes Julian had, and now you have got a bonafide 4-Tower situation. Sasha hopefully stays in KS this summer and works on his game--keeps getting closer, but incrementally in his skills, but I like his fire, and athleticism, and toughness. I will take Sasha OVER Chenowho? anyday. And thanks to all the posts in support of D. Jackson, a posterboy(man) for hard work through adversity--very proud to have him in the KU family! And cannot say enough about Russell: rocksolid through ALL the big games, including his touch on treys. Look at it another way: Solid backcourt with 3 solid guards, maybe a 4th in Rodrick; and 3 veteran, constantly improving bigs with the addition of a 7ft McD AAmer...are you salivating yet?
Assume the loss of Rush, and if we lost Julian, we lost a very inconsistent player who tied for most TOs on the team--may actually help our team in subtle other ways. Dont get me wrong, I certainly respect Julian as a very intelligent young man who ultimately had to make a tough or not-so-tough choice, but a harder hit would be to lose Rush. It looks like 8-deep again to me with harder hitting bigs. Sure would be nice if Rush stayed...we will all know soon. Next KU game 7mos away...can't wait!

If Stewart were going to be an offensive force on the wing we'd have already seen a hint of it. We haven't. If you're holding out hope for Rod Stewart coming on strong as an offensive weapon please don't hold your breath. Rod is a defensive role-player a la Jeff Hawkins. If he gives us anything in the way of offense that's just a bonus. I do think he can improve offensively, but only marginally over what he has already shown. Clearly his twin got the offensive genes.
As for the 4-tower situation, Ralster, boy I'd sure like to see it! I will reserve judgement though until I see this Aldrich kid play a few DI games. We should know the skinny on him by January '08.
One thing is sure: we GOTTA have Rush to make a run at the '08 championship now. I love our guys and have faith in them, don't get me wrong, but a lot is riding on Brandon's decision. There is no compensation for losing both Julian and Brandon, no matter how you slice it up (people's natural tendency is to be optimistic about their team and sometimes that clouds their perspectives). We wouldn't even have the pumpkin to turn into the magic carriage if Rush bolts.
