KU soccer claims 1-0 victory over NU

Lincoln, Neb. — Shannon McCabe's goal in the second minute proved to be the game-winner, and sophomore Julie Hanley tied a season high with four saves as Kansas University shut out Nebraska, 1-0, in Big 12 Conference softball on Sunday at the Nebraska Soccer Field.

"It was a great result for us, especially beating them in Nebraska," KU coach Mark Francis said. "We were disappointed with our result on Friday, and this was a great way for the girls to bounce back."

McCabe recorded her second goal of the season just 1:01 into the match. The freshman forward blasted a loose ball off the near post and into the net from 20 yards out following a KU corner kick.

The one-goal advantage stood up as Hanley controlled the box throughout the match. The sophomore keeper made four saves, her highest total since tallying four stops against Alabama on Sept. 8 this season.

KU softball goes 4-0

Kansas University's softball team went 4-0 over the weekend to win the KU Fall Invitational.

KU improved to 7-1 in fall ball with a 1-0 victory over UMKC and a 3-1 win over Emporia State on Saturday, and shutouts of 8-0 against Johnson County CC and 4-0 over ESU on Sunday.

Senior pitcher Kassie Humphreys led KU in the circle with 21 strikeouts and held her foes hitless through 13 innings. Sophomore leadoff hitter Stephanie "Dougie" McCaulley totaled five hits and scored three runs in four games.

KU rowers fare well

Oklahoma City, Okla. — Kansas University rowers placed 1-2 in Novice Four and second in Novice Eight over the weekend at the two-day Head of the Oklahoma regatta.

The Jayhawks took the top two spots in the Novice Four with times of 17:43.124 and 18:28.523. Kansas was second in the Novice Eight with a time of 16:19.590.

Kansas dominated the collegiate doubles and singles action. The Jayhawks had seven of the top 12 finishes in the doubles with Alia Bober and Kara Boston leading the way with a time of 16:32.448.
