Bears punish K-State


— Ayinde Ubaka had 14 points and eight assists, DeVon Hardin added 12 points and 12 rebounds, and California beat cold-shooting Kansas State for the first time in six overall meetings with a 78-48 victory Wednesday night.

Ryan Anderson had 15 points and seven rebounds in Cal's fifth straight win. The Golden Bears (6-1) looked strong on both ends of the floor coming off their championship in the Great Alaska Shootout last weekend.

Cartier Martin scored 16 points and Lance Harris 14 for the Wildcats (4-2), who made their first trip to California since 1998 and first to Berkeley since 1958, only to be handed the program's worst defeat in nearly three years.

Northern Iowa 70, Iowa State 57

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Brooks McKowen scored a career-high 27 points, spoiling former Panthers coach Greg McDermott's return to Cedar Falls.

Texas Tech 70, TCU 60

Forth Worth, Texas - Charlie Burgess scored 20 points and the Red Raiders gave Bob Knight his 875th career victory.

Oklahoma St. 95, Texas A&M-Corpus; Christi 73

Stillwater, Okla. - JamesOn Curry scored a career-high 35 points and had nine assists to lead the Cowboys.

Nebraska 76, North Texas 57

Lincoln, Neb. - Center Aleks Maric had a double-double for the Cornhuskers, and Nebraska opened a 20-point lead in the game's first 12 minutes.

Baylor 95, Grambling State 69

Waco, Texas - Tweety Carter scored 19 points, while Aaron Bruce added 18 and Curtis Jerrells 17 to lead the Bears.

UNC Wilmington 67, Colorado 55

Wilmington, N.C. - Daniel Fountain scored a career-high 21 points as the Seahawks rallied to beat the Buffaloes.


No. 3 Oklahoma 79, Lamar 44

Beaumont, Texas - Courtney Paris scored 21 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, her 33rd consecutive double-double.

No. 25 Texas Tech 77, Tulane 50

Lubbock, Texas - Jordan Murphree scored 14 points to lead the Red Raiders.
