Kansas explodes late

— The Kansas University baseball squad scored 14 runs in the final four innings Saturday to earn a wild 15-10 victory over Lipscomb at the Music City Challenge.

Trailing 4-1, the Jayhawks (9-4) scored five times in both the sixth and seventh innings and, after a Bison rally, added four more in the ninth to finally pull away.

Sophomore Matt Berner had the big hit in the sixth with a three-run double, while senior Gus Milner drilled a three-run homer in the seventh, his fourth of the year.

Berner, making his first career start, finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs. Milner and Erik Morrison each had three RBIs and scored three runs, while Jared Schweitzer was 3-for-4.

Senior Ricky Fairchild (3-1) tossed 51â3 innings for the victory, allowing four runs on seven hits while tying a career high with five strikeouts. After KU's middle relief struggled, senior Don Czyz nailed down the final four outs for his fifth save this season.

KU will close out tournament play at noon today against Vanderbilt. Senior Kodiak Quick (1-1) will be on the mound for the Jayhawks.
