? Kansas University’s softball team won one and lost one during first-day action at the Palm Springs Classic.

The Jayhawks beat Cal State Fullerton, 4-0, before falling to Fresno State, 6-0.

Both games were decided early. Kansas scored all four of its runs against Fullerton in the first three innings, thanks to three RBIs by Serena Settlemier and another by Stevie Crisosto. Kassie Humphreys (3-3) picked up the victory, striking out seven and allowing just two singles.

KU’s bats went bye-bye against Fresno, as the Jayhawks mustered just a lonely single by Crisosto and struck out 17 times against Bulldog ace Robin Mackin. Fresno State, meanwhile, scored twice in the first inning and three times in the second. The final run was posted in the fifth inning.

Settlemier (2-3) suffered the loss, pitching only the first two frames.

Kansas (5-6) will face its toughest test yet today, tangling with No. 3 UCLA at 3 p.m. The Jayhawks then will take on UC Santa Barbara at 10:30 p.m.
