KU softball once again packing for road

Kansas University's softball team will continue its month-long road stint this weekend at the Palm Springs, Calif., Classic.

The Jayhawks (4-5) will face five California teams - Fresno State, Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara, Pacific and No. 3-ranked UCLA.

KU will meet Fresno State (noon) and CS-Fullerton (5 p.m.) today, UCLA (3 p.m.) and Santa Barbara (10:30 p.m.) on Saturday, then conclude against Pacific (1 p.m.) on Sunday.

The Palm Springs tourney is the Jayhawks' third of four road trips to open the season. KU's home opener is scheduled March 8 against Missouri State.

KU's Serena Settlemier and Destiny Frankenstein lead the Big 12 Conference in home runs with six and five respectively. Settlemier and Frankenstein share the school career record with 27 homers apiece.

Frankenstein's batting average is a robust .478 while Settlemier is hitting .370. Settlemier, a fifth-year senior, has also been KU's top pitcher in the early going with a 2-2 record and 0.50 earned-run average.
