Las Vegas Serena Settlemier hit two home runs and six RBIs, but Kansas University's softball team fell, 9-8, in eight innings Sunday to host UNLV on the final day of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic.
KU (4-5) was 2-3 in the weekend tournament.
A four-run seventh - thanks to a Settlemier grand slam - gave KU the lead, but the Rebels matched the four-run output in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra inning.
KU could not score in the eighth with the international tie-breaker rule in effect (a runner placed on second). UNLV, however, pushed its run across.
Settlemier (2-2) started and finished, yielding to Kassie Humphreys for 22â3 innings in the middle.
