For the first time in a long time the Kansas women’s basketball team is thinking post season. On Saturday the Jayhawks upset Missouri, 81-71 in overtime to put Bonnie’s bunch 16-10 overall. That record combined with a solid finish to the season, could equal basketball in March.

Saturday’s 25-point loss to Texas did sever damage to KU’s shot at a Big 12 title. With just two games left in the regular season, the Jayhawks sit at 11-3 in conference, a full game back of the longhorns in the title ranks. Kansas University slid in both polls, thanks to its lopsided setback to Texas on Saturday, when the Week 17 national rankings came out on Monday. The Jayhawks fell two spots in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, down from No. 16 to No. 18. KU fell even farther in the ESPN/USA Today Poll, moving down to No. 22 from No. 18 last week.

Junior P.J. Tucker (Texas) and freshman Julian Wright (Kansas) have been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week for games of Feb. 20-26 in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. Tucker wins player honors for the sixth time in his career, tying the Big 12 record. Wright is the third KU freshman to win rookie accolades in 2005-06.

Kansas University’s women’s basketball team defeated Border Showdown rival Missouri, 81-71, in overtime Saturday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse.
