KU vs. Rhode Island notebook

¢ University of Rhode Island is located in Kingston, R.I. Nickname is Rams. Enrollment is 15,095. Colors are Keaney Blue, Dark Blue and White. Conference is Atlantic 10.

¢ The all-time series is tied 1-1. Rhode Island won the last meeting, 80-75, on March 15, 1998 in an NCAA Tournament game in Oklahoma City.

¢ Junior Will Daniels ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, at 16.6 points per game. He has made 54.9 percent of his shots, including 24 of 44 threes for 54.5 percent.

¢ Soph Jimmy Baron has made 31 of 51 shots (60.8 percent) over the last five games. For the year, he's made 51.3 percent of his shots and 55.6 percent of his threes (40 of 72). Rhode Island has made 108 of 252 threes for 42.9 percent. Baron hit eight threes en route to a career high 28 points against Brown on Dec. 5. He was eight of nine from three, good for second best three-point outing in school history. Tyson Wheeler hit a school-record nine in 1998 against St. Joseph's. Wheeler also had eight versus Temple in 1996, while Cuttino Mobley had eight against Temple in '98. Mobley and Wheeler, you may recall, led the Rams to a shocking second round win over KU in the 1998 NCAA Tournament. KU went into that NCAA tourney with a 34-3 record and No. 1 seed.

¢ Baron is a perfect 28 of 28 from the free throw line this season. The Rams have made 71.8 percent of their charities.

¢ Coach Baron is 75-87 in six seasons at Rhode Island including a 34-47 mark in the Atlantic 10. He was conference coach of the year in 2003.
