Some people will consider it sacrilege for me to say so, but sometimes the truth hurts, so here it goes. I think the mental let-downs is a by-product of the coaching style/philosophy. Bill Self constantly berates the players, and sometimes deservedly so. But sometimes it has to be coaching. A good coach instills toughness and mental preparedness!!! Look at Coach K at Duke, our dearly departed Roy Williams, and what about Dean Smith? How many teams of underachievers did they ever coach? Not many between them all. Some, yes. But not many. Bill Self has been plagued with underachieving teams since he's been at Kansas. Some of you may be catching yourself in the middle of a disturbing thought right now: Bill Self is no Coach K. Bill Self is no Dean Smith. Bill Self is no Roy Williams. (Congrats on the new contract, though!) I for one and willing to step out and say maybe the COACH needs to start accepting some responsibility to change things from the top down! Are you listening Bill?

JRoss I must agree with your comments my man. It's not the talent we have that's losing these games. It's the lack of good coaching. Bill Self is probably the most Stubborn, arrogant coach in the business right now. This guy absolutely refuses to press, or shift defenses throughout the course of a game. Halfcourt man-to-man defense from Start to finish. That's it. Bill, mix it up. You will find alot of teams going on runs like that to win the game this season if you give them all game to figure out how to exploit your one and only defense!!!! You gotta make opposing players think, which takes them out of their rhythm or prevents them from getting in one like the one the Blue Demons got in that last 3 mins of the game. As far as the contract extension, what happened to proving yourself worthy before the big payday. Those $$ would have been better spent louring Turgeon away from WSU!! LOL

You can coach a student with all your might. But if that student fails to execute what he has learned, he's noone to blame but himself.
AKA: You can show a horse the way to water. But you cannot force him to drink.
Its a TEAM effort. The TEAM wins games. The TEAM loses games.
