KU officials meet with NCAA Infractions Committee

All Kansas University officials can do now is wait to see what the NCAA decides.

Representatives from KU met with an NCAA Committee on Infractions for six and a half hours on Sunday in Baltimore to give their side of the story on 11 violations that were self-reported last summer.

"I want to thank the committee for giving us a fair, thorough hearing," KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway said in a released statement. "The committee was cordial, inquisitive and very business-like. It was clear they had prepared well.

"We reaffirmed to the committee our absolute commitment to NCAA rules compliance. We felt the committee asked good questions, took their time, listened well and allowed us to fully explain our answers.

"I don't think it would be productive to speculate on how the committee reacted to our presentation. The focus now is that this chapter is over. We can now move forward, confident that the changes we have made in the area of compliance will help prevent us from going through this again."

my penalty would be no Juco Recruits for 3 years and loss of 10 scolarships over 2 years maybe more....The basketball stuff was taken care of and the booster who gave money and drove athletes around should no longer be aknowledged as a booster.

I view helping juco's taking test as the worst thing possible, and if the NCAA proves the coach told the assistants to cheat, he's out.

Are you kidding me? As a past student it was obiviously to everyone, Hawkins went from a crappy Taurus to a new Tahoe in one year... what are the odds of that?!?! I went to high school wigh Hinrich, and it was nice to see him move up suddenly from his old rusty Isuzu Rodeo to a nice new Esclade... but hey, none of the infractions were intentional...

Well said cpatt. "Improper benefits" are rampant in all of college athletics, particularly in hoops. The trick is not getting caught. What are we to expect when the NCAA makes millions off of these kids?

Just like every other high profile D-1 school...we're probably breaking a million rules right under everyone's noses...but that is the nature of the beast...a few monetary gifts from some really oooollllddd lady who can't even hear anymore????????...strictly a smoke screen...self-punishment???...what a joke...but unless anyone gets caught its fair game in the recruiting/retainment world...these kids have everyone in the world of sports eating out of their hands...i think the "highest bidder" is a not-so-mythilogical figure that is associated with the college choice of any highly touted recruit...oh and i do love ku and college basketball...but i have always believed there is hanky panky when it comes to getting recruits...especially late in the game...see Darrell Aurther's "DREAM
