Kansas University men’s basketball assistant coach Tim Jankovich is one of several coaches in the running for the UTEP head basketball coaching job.

Sources say Jankovich met with UTEP athletic director Bob Stull on Friday at a hotel near the Dallas airport. Stull reportedly also either met or was soon to meet with Rodney Terry, an assistant at Texas; Bob Marlin, head coach at Sam Houston State; and Alvin Brooks, an assistant at Texas A&M who once worked at UTEP.

Stull on Thursday interviewed UTEP assistants Randall Dickey and Tony Benford. ESPN’s Andy Katz has reported that Memphis assistant Tony Barbee also might be on the short list of coaches to replace Doc Sadler, who this week accepted the Nebraska job.

Oklahoma State assistant James Dickey has withdrawn from consideration, the El Paso Times reported.

Stull also has spoken with former Arkansas coach Nolan Richardson about the post. Richardson told the Times he might talk to Stull on Sunday about the job.

KU assistant coaches follow head coach Bill Self’s policy of not commenting about their possible interest in head-coach openings.
