Bucknell knocks KU out of NCAA Tournament

Kansas University’s men’s basketball team had a chance for a last-second victory, but the No. 14-seeded Bucknell Bison knocked the Jayhawks from the NCAA Tournament with a 64-63 first-round win Friday in Oklahoma City. Trailing 64-63 with less than three seconds left in the game, Michael Lee inbounded the ball all the way to Wayne Simien at the free-throw line. Simien turned around and launched a shot that bounced off the front of the rim as time expired.

X-Factor Game 15: Kansas 83, Bucknell 58

Kansas University sophomore J.R. Giddens made up for Keith Langford’s reduced play with 25 points and five rebounds in the Jayhawks’ 83-58 virtual victory over the Bucknell Bison in the first X-Factor simulation of the NCAA Tournament. Giddens also grabbed five rebounds in 23 minutes, helping replace Langford. The injured senior scored seven points in 13 minutes off the bench.

Editorial: Success

The fine 1997 and 2005 Kansas basketball teams have special reasons to be proud.

Kansas University has had its full share of outstanding basketball teams, players and coaches and trails only Kentucky and North Carolina on the all-time victory list. But two Jayhawk seasons that merit extra attention at tournament-time are those of 1997 and 2005.
