Olathe prep picks Kansas

Kansas University’s women’s basketball team secured its first commitment for the 2006-07 season Saturday when Olathe East standout Danielle McCray told KU coach Bonnie Hendrickson she would play for KU.

McCray, a high school junior, is one of the state’s top talents. In leading the Hawks to a 17-6 record, Sunflower League title and state-tournament appearance as a sophomore, the 5-foot-10 McCray averaged 17 points and nine rebounds per game.

McCray, also a track and field standout, won’t be able to sign her letter of intent until the early signing period in November. Currently, KU has four players signed for the 2005-06 season.
