Omaha, Neb. Kansas University's men's bowling club won the inaugural Maverick/Husker Classic, which was held Saturday and Sunday.
The Jayhawks were in fourth place in the 16-team field after the first day, but caught Day One leader Lindenwood University after Sunday's third team game and beat the Lions in the final.
Kansas won with a pinfall total of 9810. Lindenwood was second with 9764.
KU's Rhino Page led all bowlers with a 220 average. Teammate Zach Taylor was third high at 210. Other Jayhawks and their averages were: Pat Eighmy (188), Ojas Sampat (186), Chris Dresie (185), Trent Overbey (184), Chris Dilley (184), Dan Ahl (182), Bob Thon (173) and Kenny Goodell (169).
Kansas' women's team (9151) was second in the five-team field. Lindenwood won with 9294 pins.
Kansas' Kelly Zapf led the tournament with a 204 average, and Natalie Bennett was fifth in the team all-events and had a 185 average. Other KU bowlers and their averages: Kelly Sanders (186), Leanne Downey (174), Nicole Johannes (172) and Sarah Roenfeldt (162).
KU will conclude the regular season Feb. 19 and 20 at the Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis.
