Pardon me for being fearful about the future of basketball. During the holidays, I’ve seen five groups of boys in the 12-16 age range hooping it up in driveways and on school grounds. The aberrant influence of highlight bites on television was gruesomely apparent; it’s obvious that coaches from junior highs on up face horrendous challenges.

In home ownership one knows that maintenance must be done regularly or it eventually causes major problems that carry expensive price tags. Whether a home, a business or the state’s Capitol, the same applies. For all of these it’s easy enough to argue that income can’t justify the expense or that there are other demands for the money.

Freshman Micah Downs could only watch from the bench last night as the Jayhawks beat UNO. The Washington native played zero minutes in the game. It was coach’s discretion to leave Downs out of the game.

Jayhawks win fourth straight
Kansas recorded its fourth straight victory Thursday night with a 73-56 win over New Orleans at Allen Fieldhouse. While Julian Wright and Jeremy Case paced the Jayhawks with 12 points a piece in Kansas’ double digit victory, KU coach Bill Self said the really nice thing about the contest was that New Orleans played hard and showed the world their perseverance after battling through Hurricane Katrina
