How they scored

First Quarter

12:28 -- John Randle 2 run. KU's offense was surprisingly explosive in the game's opening drive, going 80 yards in just eight plays. Quarterback Jason Swanson had completions of 33, 15 and 19 yards, and Randle had 10 yards rushing. His last two yards were into the end zone. Scott Webb kick. (Kansas 7, Colorado 0).

11:15 -- Randle 1 run. The Jayhawks continued to click, getting the ball back in great field position after Colorado's first offensive play was intercepted by Rodney Harris. An end-around rush by Mark Simmons went for 19 yards, and after an eight-yard run by Austine Nwabuisi, Randle rushed in behind the right tackle for the score. Webb kick (Kansas 14, Colorado 0).

8:39 -- Dominique Brooks 41 fumble return. After Swanson appeared to have hurt his shoulder after getting hit, John Nielsen entered the game. On his first play, a shovel pass to Randle went for a decent gain, but Randle fumbled, Brooks scooped it up and followed blockers into the end zone. Mason Crosby kick. (Kansas 14, Colorado 7).

Second Quarter

13:36 Crosby 19 FG. Colorado slowly moved downfield after starting the drive on its own 45-yard line. KU often forced the Buffs into third-down situations, but CU prevailed every time but its last, when a Joel Klatt pass fell incomplete in the end zone. Crosby effortlessly nailed the short field goal. (Kansas 14, Colorado 10).

Third Quarter

11:36 -- Joe Klopfenstein 4 pass from Klatt. An eight-play, 70-yard drive was dominated by Colorado's passing attack, most notably a 34-yard completion from Klatt to Lawrence Vickers that put the Buffs in Jayhawk territory. On third and goal, Klatt found Klopfenstein in the left side of the end zone for an easy touchdown. Crosby kick. (Colorado 17, Kansas 14).

6:19 -- Brandon Rideau 19 pass from Nielsen. The short passes went for sizable gains throughout the 80-yard drive. Nielsen hooked up with Randle several times on shovel and screen passes, one of which went for 21 yards. On third down, Nielsen found Rideau on the right sideline, and Rideau broke a tackle and pounded his way past two more defenders into the end zone. Webb kick. (Kansas 21, Colorado 17).

:12 -- Stephone Robinson 48 punt return. A great punt by John Torp put the Jayhawks on their own one-yard line. After a three-and-out, Kyle Tucker punted to Robinson, who broke one tackle, cut back to the other side of the field and streaked up the right sideline for the touchdown, thanks in part to great blocking by the Buffalos' special team. Crosby kick. (Colorado 24, Kansas 21).

Fourth Quarter

3:27 -- Vickers 4 run. By this point, KU's defense was obviously exhausted, and Colorado used its running game to make things even tougher. Seven straight runs in a 51-yard drive culminated with Vickers rumbling into the end zone for the score from four yards out. Crosby kick failed. (Colorado 30, Kansas 21).
