Prep football banquet coming to Kansas

Kansas University will be the site of the 10th-annual Sunflower Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame banquet Thursday at Adams Alumni Center.

KU coach Mark Mangino will be the featured speaker at the event, which will honor 11 high school senior football players from Kansas, including Dain Dillingham of Free State High and Josh Lawrence of Lawrence High.

The banquet, which is open to the public, begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets, which are $20, can be purchased by contacting Gerry McGuire at 785-267-3533.

The foundation awards more than $1 million in scholarships annually to high school seniors.

In addition to Dillingham and Lawrence, other 2004 Sunflower Chapter honorees were: Christian Taylor, Joseph Smith, Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan; William Stubenhofer, Marion; Kaleb Stoppel, Osage City; Cody Deal, Sedan; Tyler Degenhardt, Holton; Brandon Mendez, Pittsburg; Jared Morris, Holton; and Brad Perkins, Olathe South.
