Emporia Kansas University's track and field squad took home 12 individual titles, and five Jayhawks set NCAA provisional qualifying marks Thursday in the outdoor season opener at Emporia State.
Senior Jamie Waters and junior Jen Widerstrom provisionally qualified in the hammer throw with identical KU outdoor-record throws of 180-02.
KU junior Brooklyn Hann finished first in the triple jump with an NCAA automatic-qualifying mark of 41-11.50.
Freshman Jessie Violand broke the meet record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:36.03.
Sophomore Joshy Madathil also broke a meet record in the 800 in 1:53.78.
Junior Sandra Rauterkus won the high jump with a provisional mark of 5-6. Senior T.J. Hackler also posted a provisional mark at 6-103/4.
Freshman Barrett Saunders provisionally qualified with a mark of 24-013/4 in the long jump.
KU senior Arrah Nielsen won the 1,500 meters in 4:50.87. Junior Julie Mullaly won the 3,000-meter run in 10:41.15. Sophomore Benson Chesang won the individual title in the 1,500-meter run in 3:55.64, while sophomore Cameron Schwehr placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:33.72.
