KU - Richmond notes

  • The game marks the first-ever meeting between Richmond and Kansas.
  • KU is 29-9 all-time against teams from the Atlantic-10 Conference.
  • Kansas coach Bill Self has never faced the Spiders, and this will be his first time playing a team from the state of Virginia.
  • Spider head coach Jerry Wainwright was an assistant coach at Wake Forest from 1986-94. In 1994 the Jayhawks downed the Demon Deacons, 69-58, in the NCAA Southwest subregional in Lexington, Ky.
  • KU has won 12 straight home games and 52 consecutive games over unranked foes in Allen Fieldhouse.
  • The magic number for the Jayhawks so far this season is 70. They are 11-0 when scoring 70 or more points, 0-2 in games under 70.
  • Richmond, 9-8, won 59-52 Saturday at Temple to snap a three-game losing streak.
  • The Spiders are led by Mike Skrocki, who scores 16.5 points per game off 43.4 percent shooting. Tony Dobbins chips in with 11.4 points and a team-best 7.6 rebounds per game.
  • Wainwright is 25-21 in his second season as Richmond's head coach and 161-124 in his 10th season overall.
  • Keith Langford needs 10 points to pass Wayne Hightower for 32nd place on KU's all-time scoring list.
  • Aaron Miles needs 30 assists to pass Darnell Valentine for fourth place on KU's assist list. He needs three steals to pass Adonis Jordan for sixth place on the steals list.
  • Richmond is 3-1 against the Big 12, including a 13-point win at Colorado this year. Before that, the Spiders hadn't played a Big 12 team since 1995. Richmond beat Texas A&M; in 1957, Baylor in 1988 and lost to Iowa State in 1995.
