KU handles FHSU easily

Four freshmen shine in Jayhawk blowout

Without junior forward Wayne Simien and coming off a loss to Stanford, the No. 5-ranked Kansas Jayhawks had no problems handling Div. II opponent Fort Hays State on Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse. Simien didn’t play because of a strained groin, but freshman David Padgett picked up the slack down low, finishing with 19 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in the Jayhawks’ 80-40 victory over the Tigers.

FHSU to work hard for money tonight

Guarantee good for athletic program, but Fort Hays State all but expects loss

There are at least 30,000 reasons Fort Hays State plays Kansas University every other year in men’s basketball. “It is something we need,” FHSU coach Mark Johnson said of the $30,000 guarantee money, which helps support the entire athletic program at the NCAA Div. II school. “We are thankful to KU for the opportunity to play.”
