Kruggel leads KU golfers to sixth place

? Kansas University sophomore Tiffany Kruggel finished tied for ninth place Tuesday as the Jayhawks finished sixth out of 20 teams in the Carolinas Collegiate Classic women’s golf tournament.

Kruggel, who carded a 77 during Monday’s opening round, fell to a 79 during the final round for a two-day total of 156. Her ninth-place finish marks her first career top-10 placing.

Kruggel and senior Ashely Bishop, who tied for 15th, helped the Jayhawks to their second consecutive top-10 finish and third overall. KU’s team score of 644 left it two strokes out of fifth and 16 shots back of first-place finisher Campbell University.

“Overall, I am pleased with our team’s efforts,” KU coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. “I am extremely happy for Tiffany’s career-best finish and Ashely’s steady performance.”

Next for the Jayhawks is the GTE “Mo”morial on March 5-6 in Houston, Texas.
