KU golfers in fifth

Kansas University, led by Tiffany Kruggel's 77, was in fifth Monday after the first round of the Carolinas Collegiate Classic women's golf tournament. The Jayhawks shot a 323. Chrystal Thayer (80), Ashely Bishop (82), Heather Rose (84) and Jennifer Bawanan (87) also contributed to the team score. The tournament concludes with 18 holes today.

Big 12 honors KU's Collison

Kansas University's Nick Collison has been named Big 12 men's basketball player of the week. Collison, a 6-foot-9 sophomore from Iowa Falls, Iowa, averaged 24 points in a pair of victories last week. He scored a career-high 26 points in a 91-79 win against Colorado and followed that with 22 points and five blocks in Sunday's 76-72 victory at Nebraska.

KU baseball called

Kansas University's scheduled baseball game with Creighton today has been canceled because of the threat of snow. Weather permitting, the Jayhawks' home opener will be 3 p.m. Wednesday against Baker.

Jones officially joins staff

Travis Jones officially was announced as Kansas University's newest football assistant coach on Monday. Jones, linebackers coach and defensive coordinator the last three seasons at Appalachian State, will serve as defensive line coach at KU.
