to MarchPhog and all the 'bad shot' critics of Mason at the end of last game... I just listened to Coach's postgame. If you listen, you'll see why I said 'ask coach' ;)

Takeaways: 1) He's not going to take the timeout because it was above 6 seconds left. 2) Frank was actually open, not ideal "but he had to take the shot". 3) When asked about Frank driving instead, since he had time, he said no "pretty crowded house".

PS: With a long shot, there's also time for a rebound and 2nd chance points. With driving, refs ALMOST ALWAYS swallow their whistles at end of games and let the play determine the outcome -- not a grey area call. So no, you can't bank on that.

Our outside shooting must improve. Connor and Greene have shown hardly anything so far and Kucas needs to be the backup to Joel, not Black. Lucas is aggressive and more athletic. This week was a look in the mirror on how to improve. I know we are young and we need to start putting the rotation together and see who can regularly contribute. I expected 2-3 non conference losses because of our youth. Oh, and Joel is a beast!

We are a worse team now than before we left - B. Self

We accomplished nothing with this trip - B. Self

Class will be open upon their return let's hope they are all willing to learn.

KU may have won 2 of 3, but overall, I am very discouraged and disappointed with the Jayhawks' showing in the Bahamas. They have no killer instinct, they don't guard the perimeter, and their foul shooting is spotty. They truly underachieved in this tournament. I give them a D+.

Between the lousy showing in the Bahamas and the Sunflower Showdown loss to K-State, this has not been a good weekend to be a Jayhawk fan.

But Self's truckload of newbies DID show killer instinct vs. Duke, on a BIG we know they got it...maybe you are seeing high-level athletes 'disrespecting' the non-bigtime name on "lesser" opponents' jerseys. We've seen that from many Self teams...simply put, if you wear the "Kansas" jersey, you gotta learn you will take every no-namer's best shot every single game. Kansas players wear the target. And Villanova and UTEP helped prove that same 'ole point to this group of newbies, right?

My point is that the kids need to learn to harness that killer instinct they showed vs. Duke. Or, maybe they dont have it, and the Duke game was a lucky win. But notice how the "name" opponent had our kids amped up, playing intensely til the final possession. Nice teaching point that in that Duke game we DID step on the throat, while we relaxed vs. UTEP, and it almost cost us.

Bryce, I dont think you have to worry about the players not "seeing" or "getting the msg". Bill Self has plenty of game-tape of their own mistakes to teach from now. Lackluster play + a loss is exactly what Self meant after the UTEP game: "we've got great teaching tape...the tape doesnt lie".

Bryce, dont know how old you are, but teams can "regress" in almost any game (have a bad outing, or go brain-dead, getting caught-up in the action). Remember, if you can, the 2007 Elite8 KU loss to UCLA? Those same 08champs were a year younger, and tore thru the regular and post season, only to have everything break down, and try to go 1 on 1 solo vs. UCLA. Remember how Rush and Chalmers missed a ton of bunnies at the rim? Darnell Jackson lamented in the locker room that "we got away from what brought us here (team play)". That is not Self basketball. My point is, due to newbie factor/inexperience, and some residual "we-beat-Duke" cockiness...the kids assumed they had it all figured out--> NOPE. They've got a LOT to learn, as you can see. Can you find some patience, please?

OR, be "discouraged and disappointed"...Im not. Too much learning needed to happen before I will start hanging my hat on what this team is really capable of by the END of conference play. Honestly, what can we say about a team that beats Duke, yet loses to no-bigman-Villanova? Not much. Get a much larger body of work to judge. You cant live and die by every game. There's 36+ games, dude...
